Noted, that the trip cost King Mongkut his life as soon after returning to Bangkok he, and others, was diagnosed with a strain of Malaria that took his life in 4 days. The young Prince, and dynamic future king, Chulalongkorn was taken ill as well - his strength of youth fought it off. The principle heir and young prince was unofficially crowned king, under a regent, where his wisdom was sharpened. Becoming of legal royal age [1873]....officially crowned as King of Siam
