i don't know if it is true, but i was told that that's how some aussies enjoy their lambs: "greek style"!!

jokes aside, it is hard to beat a good kleftico. the greeks really know how to prepare lamb.

Took my first live in Thai girlfriend to Paris and it was her first trip out of Thailand.

Arrived at the Hotel in the early morning, unpacked and showered and thought I would take her to Galleria La Fayette for some shopping.

Got in a taxi and drove straight past the Eiffel Tower. I excitedly pointed it out to her and she replied > Mai Set Lor? (Not finished yet).

I then thought to myself, showing her the Mona Lisa was gonna be a bit of an anti-climax and after the Eiffel Tower comment.

Take the girl out of Thailand but you never can take Thailand out of the girl. Gotta luv em though!

She is from Isaan, but had lived in Bangkok the prior five years. Regardless, I think most of us feel a sense of disorientation when we arrive in a new country. I didn't know what the hell was going on my first few weeks in LOS. Kind of interesting to see things that I consider normal that she considers to be strange.

Another thing related to the sun. Because of the lack of pollution, she had trouble with the brightness of the sun the first month. I never thought I'd hear someone actually prefer the nasty smog in Bangkok to the clear skies in the US.

nice thread, funny stuff, green on the way.. Yes it's amazing how much we take for granted, my wife came to the states too but has never really talked about how much was different, though i'm certain it was most definately a shock. i'll have to ask her especially since she is from a very small village on hainan island..

BTW I should red you for reminding about the crab legs..it's bad enough I have to sit here and watch it on TV on discovery channel... my gf loved them obviously as well the lobster..
    damn i'm home sick.....

I`ll never forget the first time my wife saw snow. She ran straight outside in her T-shirt to make make a snow man at 6 below.

yeah my gf saw snow for the first time in Germany and it only took about 5 minutes of the cold to take all of the excitement out of it for her and then she wanted to go inside and get warm, but as her official warmer, that worked for me!!

Damn is it fun to bring a foreigner home.

I brought back a providential Mexican girl years ago. We went to the bank machine to draw out some cash. She almost fell off her feet. Yo quiero uno de estos, una pared que da el dinero. I want one of those, a wall that gives money. I explained to her you have to put it in to get it out. She asked, where do you put it in? I said in the bank when it's open. She said, why put it in if you have to come here to take it out?

I remember being in the back seat of my mate's car with his (then) Thai g/f when she saw a badger in the road.

    Her reaction:

    Can you eat it?

I won't take any Thais to the UK. There's too many Third-World immigrants there already and I'd only be contributing to the problem.

My wife thought the UK was cold, wet and too expensive.

I don't have any funny stories. She had already been to the US, Australia and NZ on holiday with her family so I imagine she did all her stupid foreigner things there. She is not Thai though.

My mother in law came along on our first trip too. She burnt one of my mother's sauce pans when trying to cook rice (its not the same as you get in Singapore was her excuse). And she also burnt some of my clothes by putting them too close to a gas heater to dry for too long. On more than one occasion.

    Oh happy days.

That's what annoyed me of my first wife. It is so much more nice to have someone share interest in culture instead of just looking for something to eat.

As me and Mrs benbaaa approached a zebra crossing on the Brighton seafront, Mrs benbaaa asked me why all the cars were stopping.

First wife asked me: "What are you doing?" when I get out at the gas station to fill up the tank.

Second wife took a picture and was about to tell her father I am working there.

Good analogy... Introducing an unsuspecting, 3rd world foreign woman into western society is much like a heroin addict who's on the wagon... If they survive it, they are no longer the person they were before the experience...

I thought that's what we brought all the Caribbeans over for in the 50's?

A Thai friend worked at a Chinese restraunt in a rural town in Devon. We went into the very local pub and sat at a table ordered our food and then started chatting away in Thai for the whole meal. Freaked locals right out it did.
