I see a cruise ship in the background. I was aboard Queen Victoria (the ship) when it made its maiden world cruise and stopped off in Sydney beside the Opera House.

I really don't understand what brings forth so much disbelief.

It is a good picture and I was lucky to be in the right place, at the right time with the right equipment when the sun came up golden that day. Further good luck that the "Balloons Over Bagan" guys just happened to be drifting by at the right time and place too.

I took the picture. I have the original file of that picture as well as the sequence of images that led up it and the sequence that followed it. I also have air ticket receipts that show me to be in that area of Myanmar on the photo's dates. Do a little more research and you can determine what sunrise was like on the day the photo was taken.

Yes, I was a new-comer who came out of nowhere. I had belonged to the forum and mostly lurked, quite simply because with my butt parked here in NY most of the time it wasn't easy to have anything of value to contribute. When I noticed the photo contest I jumped at the chance to submit because I finally had something to offer, something that I thought was quite good, something that I thought people could enjoy.

I was stunned at the casual accusations and implications that I would have lifted it from a website and submitted it as my own work. To do so would be both unethical and stupid -- I try to avoid both.

My gallery of Myanmar shots elsewhere on Teakdoor should be sufficient to suggest that I am capable of having shot the picture in question.

As I said before, you lot have an unusual way of welcoming new-comers.

In the perhaps unlikely event that I garner a prize I hereby relinquish any claim to it, a priori.

I shan't bother you further.

PS: I thought it was a good photo and I voted for it, along with some others that I liked. Apparently that's a big faux pas around these parts. Mea Culpa.

with a Join Date of nov2007 it indicates that you did not join just to enter the photo competition.
Most of us have seen your photo essay about your trip to Myanmar and realise it is your photo.

your photo is likely to come in 1st or 2nd and I don't think there is any reason for you to relinquish your right to a prize - you can always transfer it if you wish - just don't give it to nawty.

also there is nothing in the rules that prohibits your right to flounce.

I can't believe i've got 10 votes that's 9 more than i thought i'd get, had to vote for myself as i didn't want to look like a twat with 0 votes, although it's probably more twatish voting for myself in the first place, but cheers to the other 9 of you though whoever you are.

Stop being so damned thin-skinned. Think of this as a local pub, a community. Every so often the pub owner puts up a prize and organizes a pool tournament, the locals sharpen the cues, and slap each others back making side bets, etc. Then in walks some Minnesota Fats-type guy; runs the table in every bout, steals all the women and drinks all the good booze.
You don't think there would be some grumbling?

You show up with very good shots (I believe there are better in the comp though) a shot many here think are well above the rest, just for the contest, then begin criticizing the way we treat "New-Comers." Stick around and get to know us we're really much worse than you imagine. Showing half the group up is really a tough way to introduce yourself, anywhere.

It may be "Cyber" or "virtual" but it IS a community. Get over yourself, be part or don't.
