I had some nasty dealings with her (I think it's the same woman) back in about 1984 or 85. My wife at the time was a citizen of the "Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands"; a US protectorate. We went to Bali for vacation; no visas for either of us. Unfortunately, the Balinese had no idea of what the "Trust Territory" was and put my wife into custody for illegally entering the country. The consulate showed up later and managed to negotiate a three day stay and then just abandoned us. No friggin' help at all. (Her parents had just arrived so she was too busy to actually do anything.) Fortunately, in Bali money talks so a few portraits of President Lincoln donated to the Immigration office got my wife a two week stay. The ironic thing is that when we were ready to leave they didn't want her to go. They figured she was Indonesian trying to leave the country on a fake passport. (To be fair, the Trust Territory passport looked way more bogus than anything you could pick up on Khao San Road....) ----- Just got finished re-reading this wonderful thread. She never once came to see me again after the intial 2 or 3 visits. She had too many ""Embassy"" fuctions to attend. Was never in court, and did not come when it was get out of jail time. This is one reason I am so resentful of US goverment officials. Although I have to admit its alot easier for an American to walk into the embassy here in Bangkok as far as American Services go as opposed to the British. If we have our passport we can walk in at any time. If you request to speak to an American rather than a Thai nobody gets angry you just have to wait a bit.

Boy did Deborah and I sleep well and get well plastered that night. I think I spent a good 20 bucks on booze and KFC for all that were out of their cells at 7pm. We or at least I knew we were clear. We would have to wait it out, but when it came time for the gavel to come down things would be on my side finally. The hardest part was not telling anyone the key to our freedom. Just could not take the chance on any word getting out.

Soon the garden was bearing all types of veggies, and they were so nice and fresh. Nothing like the boiled shit the prison population had been living on. The best thing was eating the squash pumkin flowers that we dredged in flour and then fried up and dipped in the sambol hot sauce so sweet and nice as were all the veggies. That damn nightsoil works like a charm.

Holy shit they allowed it. When it was shown we knew just what it was but for damn sure it was not heroin or even a drug, and they were so sure it was our ticket to time. Or their ticket to money. ""Agung they have nothing"" was my intial response "". "You will see the prosector today, he will give you the figure if there is one." I aint paying, we did nothing wrong........."" We were to wait 6 more weeks till the next hearing , but not without really making a prosecutor angry for rejecting his offer of a huge payout.

I only just found this forum - this is a great thread. Brings back so many good memories for me - Nepal/ drugs etc, but 10 years before me.

I always liked the Balinese more than the Javanese as well AO. The first time I went north to Lovina, I was blown away at how nice the people were compared to Kuta. They told me "we're Balinese who live here, they're Javanese who just come to collect your money.
