I tend to believe poppy Bush was no hero. He bailed out to save his own life. That plane he flew was built to survive a sea crash landing. He left his ‘buddies’ to perish. .

Tony Award Winner Philip Bosco Dies at 88

    The RIP Famous Person Thread-philipbosco-jpg

Veteran character actor Philip Bosco, who won a Tony Award in 1989 for “Lend Me a Tenor” as an opera impresario and was nominated five other times, died Monday, according to his grandson, Luke Bosco. He was 88.

Bosco received his first Tony nomination for “Rape of the Belt” in 1960. His other nominations were for “Heartbreak House,” “You Never Can Tell,” “Moon Over Buffalo” and “Twelve Angry Men.”

Bosco also appeared in “A Man for All Seasons,” “King Lear,” “The Crucible,” “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial,” “An Inspector Calls,” “The Heiress, ” Twelfth Night” and “Copenhagen.” He was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 1998.

Luke Bosco wrote in a Facebook post:
“My beloved grandfather, an indomitable force in the theater and a man of goodness beyond measure, passed away yesterday evening. We will not soon forget your grace, your courage, your resolute will, or the love which you found so easily all around you. You are my hero and a hero to so many other young actors across the generations that strive for greatness not for glory’s sake, but for the love of the art. And let’s not forget your irresistible urge to crack a joke in any setting. I never knew a man that could congratulate and taunt his fellow nominees in a single breath. You will be dearly missed.”

In feature films, Bosco starred in Tamara Jenkins’ “
The Savages” as the estranged father of Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman’s characters. He portrayed the boss who fired Sigourney Weaver’s character and hires Melanie Griffith’s character at the end of “Working Girl.” His television work included a Daytime Emmy Award in 1988 for his appearance in the ABC Afterschool Special “Read Between The Lines”and he was a series regular on FX’s “Damages.”

Other feature credits included “A Lovely Way to Die,” “The Pope of Greenwich Village,” “Children of a Lesser God,” “Three Men and a Baby,” “The First Wives Club” and “Wonder Boys.”

Bosco was born in Jersey City and attended the Catholic University of America. He married Nancy Ann Dunkle in 1957. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Celia, Lisa Bosco-Tafro, Diane Bosco and Jennifer Bosco; three sons, Philip, Christopher and John; two brothers, Donald and David; and 15 grandchildren.

Pete Shelley, Buzzcocks singer and founder dies, age 63.

Pete Shelley, the lead singer of the punk band Buzzcocks, has died aged 63, his bandmates have said.
“It’s with great sadness that we confirm the death of Pete Shelley, one of the UK’s most influential and prolific songwriters and co-founder of the seminal original punk band Buzzcocks,” the band said on Thursday evening.
“Pete’s music has inspired generations of musicians over a career that spanned five decades and with his band and as a solo artist, he was held in the highest regard by the music industry and by his fans around the world.”
The songwriter died of a suspected heart attack on Thursday in Estonia, where he was living, the BBC quoted the band’s management as saying.
Shelley wrote a a large part of the soundtrack to my misspent youth. The vinyl singles (and great artwork) were always an event when released.

    RIP.

    Sondra Locke

Actress Sondra Locke, who was best known for making six movies with Clint Eastwood, has died at the age of 74.

She earned an Oscar nomination for her first film, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, in 1968.

Locke became romantically involved with Eastwood whilst making The Outlaw Josey Wales in 1975 but later went on to sue him for fraud when they broke up.

She died on 3 November after having a heart attack, which was related to her breast and bone cancer diagnosis.

Admittedly got most of her roles through her boyfriend, but I haven't seen the one for which she got nominated.

Let's face it, Dirty Harry and the orang utan movies were hardly renowned for their thespian traits.

^ "Clyde" the Orang Utan really nailed that part though. Shame he didn't get nominated for any awards.

In reality, Hollywood 'trainers' beat the shit out of him and actually killed him before the film came out.. According to the grapevine: The Great Ape Pledge | Clyde

Penny Marshall, Director and ‘Laverne & Shirley’ Actress, Dead at 75

Penny Marshall, the influential actress who became a trailblazing filmmaker, died Monday night at her home in California. A rep confirmed the entertainer’s death to Rolling Stone, adding that her death was due to complications from diabetes. She was 75.
“Our family is heartbroken over the passing of Penny Marshall,” Marshall’s family said in a statement. “She was a comedic natural with a photographic memory and an instinct for slapstick. Penny was a girl from the Bronx, who came out West, put a cursive ‘L’ on her sweater and transformed herself into a Hollywood success story. We hope her life continues to inspire others to spend time with family, work hard and make all of their dreams come true.”

“I loved Penny. I grew up with her. She was born with a great gift,” Marshall’s ex-husband Rob Reiner said in a statement. “She was born with a funnybone and the instinct of how to use it. I was very lucky to have lived with her and her funnybone. I will miss her.”

I didn't say "instead of following modern medicine". Adding turmeric (essentially a spice) to your diet is generally good for your health anyway.
