BH's Commute to the New House

Well, I'm retired, so I no longer commute to work. But I do commute to the new house twice a day to water the garden. Here's how it looks:

This is the house where I live now. Go out the driveway and turn right.

At the end of the soi, turn right again.

This moo baan is about 15 or 20 years old and quite low end. Down this soi a few houses is...

This little restaurant where we often order take-out food for dinner.

Keep on going and the road suddenly become unofficial. Get to the end and turn left and you see...

This mini-mart where I often buy a beer or four.

Turn right instead and you get to this road. Turn left and keep on going.

After about 500 meters you get to this intersection. Turn right over the railroad tracks and you can get on Mittraphap Highway (Thai 2 to Bangkok and Khon Kaen).

Turn left instead. The new moo baan is on the far right side of this road.

People used to fish on this nice pond but the owner put up a "no fishing" sign.

The pond has beautiful water lilies, but at this time in the afternoon they are closed up.

This farmer's pond only has water during the wet season. Note the grazing cow in the background.

A couple hundred meters past the pond and you encounter the entrance to our new moo baan.

If you continue down the road two hundred meters instead of turning in you get to this mini-mart; the closest one to the new house. They always keep some Singha on ice for me and throw a few ice cubes into the bag when I buy some.

If you turn into the moo baan make an immediate left until you get to this house. (Lots of plants, no plan.) Turn right.

Our new house is the last one on the left. It's about one kilometer from where we live now.

Mine would be a bit boring to document pictorially. There's only so many shot's you can take walking downstairs from the bedroom to the study.

I shall do one next week. It involves all kinds of interesting things like the MRT and avoiding the wanker motocy guys who slob around outside the apartment.

    Excellent thread Nick, nice one.

I haven't a camera else I would post a picture of the tree lined avenue I stroll along for all of 5 minutes to get to work; it really does look quite beautiful when the trees are in blossom.

I used to commute for at least 2 hours a day - or more when I worked in London - This went on for twenty years or so - Never again - I will always attempt to live within 10 minutes walk of my workplace in the future.

2 hours 5 days a week for 20 "44 week" years = 8,800 hours which is strangely equivalent to a whole year spent commuting. Still, at least it wasn't time wasted....hold on! yes it was....
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!

OK, here's my commute...I normally do it on a bike, but today I shall be walking with my daughter. It starts going out of the crappy gate

Go down the road and turn left, then left again

There's some kind of warehouse on the left, something to do with builders or other such scum.

Anyway carry on a little bit and we get to our friendly security guard...

Looks like he's having his breakfast at the moment.

Now, we should turn right here, but there's a dog...

My daughter ain't to happy about it...

So we have to carry on and take the next right...

Here we go past Tomato restaurant, I have never seen more than 2 people in this place and it is very rare to see anyone. I think it sells thinks like imported steak and the like. I have never eaten there...

There's some nice houses on this road which is adjacent to the lake

and we met this doggy who was a bit more friendly and most important, behind a gate

Next we come past the som am lady....she has shouted "Yang Heng, Yang Heng!" at me twice a day, every day, for the last two years and I still don't know what the fek it means..

    Another nice house

At the end of this road we turn left

There is some kind of farmy type place on the left hand side

A little bit further and here we are, my place of work

They say if I try a little bit harder I could go on the till

Next door is the swimming pool

and here is a couple of views looking back across the lake at the houses we have just walked past

It normally takes me 4 minutes on my bike, but the walk was about half an hour there and back. There was trouble this morning because I wouldn't stop at the seven to buy an ice-cream!

    Here's the google earth view
