Radio 4 in the UK has been running a series all year of short programmes in which interviews with WWI soldiers recorded years ago and their diary recollections re played and by God it brings to life the awfulness of what they lived through, and that just because you lived through it, that was not necessarily the end to it - many survivors suffered terribly with PTSD and their injuries, not just them but the wives and children.
A terrible price paid that should not be forgotten.
