    Daily moan.

    The inevitable marching of time.

Video called the ol fella on his 76th birthday, all seemed well and healthy until talking about the nightsky, and he mentioned Saturn as always being near the sun for sunrise/set (Venus), and Jupiter as the red planet (Mars).

For someone who's always been as sharp as a tack and knowledgeable about such things, it's a first sad sign of the aging brain.

Yup. In the wake of such a call, I got out me pen and paper wrote a few lines.

I met a traveller from an antique land,

Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone

Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,

Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,

And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,

Tell that its sculptor well those passions read

Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,

    The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;

And on the pedestal, these words appear:

    My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away.

    Edmond Cheddar.

Brought back memories of sitting snugly on his knee on our big armchair watching The World At War, The Planets, David Attenborough, and Michael Palin travelling the world, on BBC. Guess he would have been around my age now, and I'd have been 8-10-ish. Hopefully the evitable decline won't be too dramatic.

It is. My dad died last year of cancer. I don't expect my mum to see another year. I visited her recently in England and noticed she had aged considerably. I felt quite sad when she told me I probably won't see her again.

I suppose I should add a moan for the thread

It can be annoying organizing meeting people for farewell drinks when certain groups don't get along with each other. Quite childish really, but it is what it is

Who else here always pronounces the name differently in the title and the text? Ozymandias in the title and Ozymandias in the text.

Meanwhile, time passes for all of us. I can probably recite Ozymandias from memory but the other day I was in the coffee shop and I wanted to order something in the cabinet and I simply could not remember the word 'croissant'. It's tough when it happens to the earlier generation, when it happens to oneself it's downright scary. I woke up next to this Thai woman this morning and I wasn't sure if she was the girlfriend or if I needed to get my wallet out.

This not a moan it is more like a deep sorrowful howl of grief

Somebody was selling this amazing 1/72 scale Avro Vulcan on eBay

    Daily Moan-s-l1600-jpg

I set my alarm to remind me to go and bid on it nearer the the time

But my alarm did not go off and I missed bidding on it by half an hour

I was not expecting to win the auction as Vulcans usually fetch a good price but it felt like being stabbed in the heart when I saw that somebody else had won the auction for a pittance

I felt dizzy and almost nauseous

I could have had one of my holy grail models for a song and instead I am left holding my pecker in dejection

When I woke today everything felt normal for a few seconds before the awful searing gut-wrenching pain returned...

^ In 617 Sqn colours as well!

I feel old looking at that, I worked on XL444 when it was (briefly) on 9 Sqn.

Paint job isn't quite right, the antennas have not been painted and the fin looks to be missing the 228 RWR.

Ebay is bent as fuck mate. The guy who would have bought it dirt cheap would have been the owner because it didn't raise the amount he wanted.

That'll probably be up for sale again right now on there just waiting for a naive Aussie mug whose up for a bidding war with the sellers 5 bogus accounts

There was different details through the life of each aircraft. At least that is how I am seeing it

    Love the Vulcan!

Spent a few weeks making a paper mashe one for my eldest school project a decade ago.
    Needless to say he won.
I have a pic of him somewhere holding his trophy and Vulcan Bomber, proud dad moment.
I think the Vulcan model is still in the attic somewhere.
    Shalom

Proud to teach him how to cheat to win something he doesn't deserve to? Or was the paper 'mashe' contest for the parents?
