I fly Qatar quite regularly and have no idea how they can claim to be a 'Five Star Airline'... they're no different and as bad to any European carrier. My last trip over was with Emirates and that was a noticeably more pleasant flight... well, less awful anyway.

For me it's about comfort and entertainment options.
My flights always fail on at least two of those. I fly Economy apart from a very occasional lucky upgrade so complete discomfort and awful food are a given. I think most people take some sandwiches these days, and I usually add a cold pie. Entertainment seems OK on most flights these days and I usually find at least a couple of movies to watch. I always load up the phone and laptop with downloads from the BBC and Netflix for a back-up.

It was a lovely spoon but I seem to remember it was an Economy Qatar (?) and I have a load of them already. A Business class Qatar would have been great...

They would take pride of place Mike, I have neither... but it's too much!

What could I give you in return? Would you like some home-made mango chutney? Or maybe a few tubs of Norwegian lingonberries?

Same here Mendy. I can't stare at a phone but do have movies and TV shows on my lappy just in case. I always fly economy plus or premium economy nowadays. Nicer TVs, more side room and more leg room. On the big birds it's 2 x 3 x 2 versus 3 x 5 x 3. Occasionally I will upgrade to business class but I don't really care for BC.

Our house dog died this morning, she was a Papillon toy spaniel given to one of our nieces by the local shopkeeper almost 16 years ago. I called it an overgrown rat when I first saw it, much preferring bigger dogs, but it didn't take long for her personality and extraordinary energy to attract even me to her. Fantastic with the children, easy to train and great fun, she was the only one of our dogs to be allowed to sleep in the house at night. (Except of course during thunderstorms etc when all the dogs shelter in the house for comfort).

Although she has had problems with teeth and gums over the last couple of years I think it was the heat of the last couple of weeks that drained her life away. A sad loss for the family and given a well deserved plot in our garden, along with her treasured belongings, RIP Ma Mon and thanks for such lovely times together.

Anyone know where I can get Papillon puppies or similar?

    That's a good innings for a dog.

I say dog, but yeah they're part of the family.

    RIP

Qatar vanity bags are great, real leather last time to KL.
Although I seldom fly Royal Jordanian anymore I do have some wonderful Rubba Johnny spoons thoughtfully engraved for me as RJ spoons which I shall save for Mendy and his rig thread contribution.
I think there's still a couple with the guest crockery and Teas made in the Goblin House

My sole moan is the endless trailers on TV, in an age of net and on screen menus I don't need these, a sat weather scan like Sky News be better or NHK with lovely music. There used to be a late night Bavarian show with train journey or Space Night with views from Space

It's part of the fare cost you dolt. They don't break it out and say Airfare xxxx and Meal xxxx. It's part of the service they offer and I don't eat airplane food. Never have. Save it for the next flight of people. They can reheat it numerous times.

^ I order special meals when I fly. Not a vegetarian but the vegetarian meals are by far better than the ordinary ones. Sit in the tummy better than that lead they serve. Like yourself, I fly premium economy (until I can save up points to get bumped up to business.)

I’m out flying around today. I am sitting in Incheon waiting for my flight to Narita.

That’s my moan. Flying. So tiresome.

    What? That she's flying?

Jeepers, you must led a frugal life if you think a mention about flying economy is a humblebrag...

Let's face it simian: it's all a bit too complicated for you

Also, notice how now some seats are 'premium economy' a couple of US posters have said it's the class they usually fly.

I bet they never once posted 'I usually fly economy'.

That's another observation waay too nuanced for you, you dumb baboon.

You always get served first when ordering a special meal through the website a couple of days before flying. I always go for the halal option saying I'm allergic to seafood. Indian curry every time.

...and to add, I cannot do films on a plane, but the good guys at Cathay have updated their impressive movie library, so when I flew in and out a few days back I binged most of the action scenes from the whole of the Star Wars saga going out and then every scene of John Wick kicking arse from 1-3 (they didn't have John Wick 4).

Spoons were high quality stainless steel btw, with a separate plastic one for your Haagen Dazs.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Food on planes, the stuff dreams are made of. I remember those days, the last time I was bumped to First from San Francisco to London I rather pigged out on the champagne, I don't remember the food at all.
These days it is more down to earth, so to speak, in the back seats. Premium Economy if I still have any points left over from history.
My last flight I was offered a small cardboard box, I think it said 'Shredded Pork Bun' on it. Thank you but no.
Sound advice from Misskit and Bogon, I used to do the same, I always enjoyed the special meals. Really.

This is true. I never have said I fly economy. I have said ‘I usually fly in squalor.’

On the flight from CM to Seoul, those economy passengers were packed like sardines. Us PREMIUM economy passengers had whole rows of seats to ourselves and slept.

    Nanananana.

^ That's the advantage of upgrading... it's not so much the extra 4mm leg room you get but you're more likely to get an empty seat next to you.

In saying that, I have a KLM flight next week to Bangkok and can upgrade to 'Economy Comfort' for 113 quid. I'd rather rough it and use the 5000 Baht for something else when I arrive. The 11 odd hours will pass soon enough either way.

What extra do they offer, some hydroponic Nedweed hashbrowns, Edam served by a little mouse with clogs on, just askin'. If it was schiedmams Oude with Roka biscuits might pony up
