I spent a lot of time, effort and investment putting in a series of storm water drains to move water off the estate which works perfectly but as the Pattaya council's storm water system failed rain water is backing up with back flow through my drains back on to the estate.

I had a moan a while back about Tesco and their willingness to sell food that really is past its best. There are only two games in town so I now visit Makro more frequently.
Yesterday, the 19th, I went in to buy bread. They make this loaf that is about as good as anything else available locally. It used to be Baht 66 a loaf, which is three times the price of the standard sliced stuff. Yesterday it was suddenly Baht 72, which is quite a hike. Then I looked at the label, this loaf was already 2 days old. No, I didn't buy any. So my moan is: No bread in the house.

^^ I just checked the freezer and that bread's 72 Baht in the Korat Makro as well!

I popped in last Friday (14th) directly after my tortuous visit to immigration and picked up two loaves... and have just noticed they were baked on the 12th, so were also two days old when I bought them.

My moan is that I can't believe my days are so empty that I could actually be bothered to go to the freezer to check this out.

Yet when in Sweden you were saying you would be too busy in Isaan to get fit.

Not that I could complain about my days being empty, however, having in fridge always few packages of such falang loaves bought in Macro, BigC, or Top, having it as an emergency stockpile when no fresh (Thai) food immediately served. After some time - when too many and too long - the fish (and dogs either) are endowed...

Yes... point taken. I guess 'empty' was probably the wrong word... my days are full, but of doing nothing but absolute fukking shite in 38 degrees and 80% humidity.

Maybe I should have said my days are lacking in rewarding stimulation, but I do always seem to be busy. After 4 months of doing nothing but small mindless jobs I'm getting the hump with it. I haven't had time for the big projects I planned.

The fitness is in fact going not too bad... 50 lengths every day with the daughter, with the plan being to build it up to 84 lengths (that'll be 1 km a day). The drinking is vastly reduced as well, although that is still a work in progress.

The daughter being home schooled at the moment has given me an extra two and a half hours of time for doing jobs instead of being stuck in Korat rush hour traffic. She needs breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of course, which seem to be my job... and the days do just disappear doing endless small jobs.

And I know I shouldn't moan, but this is the moan thread after all...

For example today... Maya has turned into a chewer, and I spend a good part of each week sewing patches on the outside sofa. She's not in the picture because I yelled at her and gave her a bosh on the nose. Tommy hung around smiling looking pleased with himself because he's never chewed anything.

Not a bad job, even if I say so meself... but another morning gone.

Well, yes, there is some news on that front. I'd better update the thread. I was going to pump out the sludge this week but we've had so much rain the level is too high to wade about in the pond. That can wait until next week!

If they weren't baked in Korat, it took them that long to get to the store.

That's a very good point VN. I'd always assumed that they baked the bread 'in store', but thinking about it I've never smelt fresh bread when I've been to Makro.

Shutree lives even more in the arse end of no-where than me... maybe it takes two days to get the bread up this way?

I don't live in the middle of nowhere. More like the edge of nowhere.

Makro bake in house, in addition to selling others' brands. They only bake a new batch of this Kraftkorn when the last lot is finished, hence the old bread. I have considered loading a trolley with all the old bread then parking it in a remote corner of the store before returning to the entrance with an empty trolley and waiting at the bakery.

By the way Mr. Mendip, a quality bit of invisible mending there. I think you missed your calling.

^ I'll accept your compliment although I sense sarcasm.

I wonder how they bake without making a fresh bread smell?

I'll certainly investigate this further... it looks as though next week could be pretty stimulating after all!

Then, let me know what are you struggling with, would it be better for you when I draw it?

As of the room dogs concerned, we do not allow the dogs inside. There are so brought up always from their beginning, even if certain leniency in their youngest days is tolerated. However, with their advance days the younger ones follow the older guys, staying outside the door (more or less) without chasing them. And they are always on eyesight. (OK, with the cat, there is no discussion possible...)

Otherwise, even when we love the dogs, it's not very convenient to sit on the dirt they bring from outside, especially from the river. Beside, also the ticks better stay with them outside (more or less).

(With the pictures, is it more understandable?)

^ Yeah, the pictures help... thanks Klondyke!

Our dogs aren't allowed in the house either, apart from occasionally sneaking in when the wife is out.

Maya has been chewing the 'outside' sofa, under a sala kind of thing out the back. We have this so that I can sit with some company (the dogs) while the wife sits on our 'inside' sofa for 8 hours a day in front of the TV. I don't like the television at the best of times... but Thai soaps and news hold no interest whatsoever. I just find it a really annoying noise... which could become another moan quite easily.

Incidentally Klondyke, try Bravecto... we started on it a few weeks ago and haven't had a single tick since.

Beautiful river... wish I had somewhere like that to walk our dogs!
