I get to work from home today and decided to cook a hearty breakfast. Bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes cooking nicely and toast in the toaster so time to make the coffee. Coffee machine is full so I empty the contents in the bin. Bin is full so I lift out the bin liner to replace it....it splits, no matter I get another one to put it into, only it doesn't fit. In the struggle the bin liner splits further and empties the contents over the kitchen floor. I can't find the dustpan, have to go hunting for it...but the breakfast is more than ready. Must put on plate first, stretching over the rubbish, I manage to spill half the mushrooms and a couple of tomatoes onto the floor. Then the toast is burning, I pop the toaster and one jumps on the floor to join the rest of the mess. Egg!, I forgot the egg and break that in the pan and it cooks without further ado.

The commotion wakes the wife, who ends up cleaning the mess up while I eat the half breakfast that got to the plate. I go to wash-up and remember the egg that's still in the pan. Oh! and I forgot to make the coffee.

The sequel, today Mrs Troy went to mop the kitchen floor properly while I was away at work. Mop was outside and iced up so she banged it 'gently' against the wall and broke the mop.

I've decided not to work from home any more...

School reopening delayed as they government here wants to open karaoke and sauna first. I guess the MPs have missed their mistresses more than I thought.

    If Android...

Settings - Apps - look at the size of the apps and click on the ones that are a large size (over XXXMB or anything over a GB).

Click on Storage and clear cache.

Should free up loads of space once you've cleared the cache on a few of the apps.

This goes done as a Bogon Tip #492

My moan is that Samsung have somehow decided that I can no longer use a memory card as internal storage on my J2 prime phone.
So now I have issues with not having enough memory for shit and I can't access the pictures and stuff I had stored on the memory card.

So Bogon if you happen to read this maybe you could explain to me why the fukkers did this to me as you seem to understand this shit.
I have read some crap on Google but it really doesn't make sense to me.

Is there a slot to insert a memory card in your new phone?

Or did you buy the "single SIM" model?

    Memory
    Card slot
microSDXC (uses shared SIM slot) - dual SIM model only
    Internal 8GB 1.5GB RAM
    eMMC 5.0

Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime - Full phone specifications

i was out with the gang last night. Most of them were out harvesting insects from the fruit trees. The hardcore sat around the campfire drinking and then falling asleep.

Driving back home at 3 in the morning with not enough diesel to reach home, I pulled into my regular, on route, petrol station to top up. All lit up, but the fuel pumps were locked up. The guy in the 7/11 said "no oil".

Not 24 hour opening now it seems. I eventually found an open petrol station just past my normal route home.

Keep your tank fuller than normal.

    OhOh
It is not a new phone it is 3+ years old.
It has slots for 2 sims and a slot for the memory card.
It all used to work really well until Samsung made some change to their software that stopped it being able to use the memory card as internal storage.

They should tell you in advance before you do any upgrades what will happen. If I had known I would not have upgraded the software if that was possible.
I hate the way that people can basically control your life through changes to software.

As you state, always check what the "upgrades" will affect and delay upgrading, if there is that option.

I had a search around for info about your phone and most of it is just complaints about how crappy it is regards memory. However, I did find a snippet about having to use a blank sd card the first time you start up and perhaps you need to do this after the software upgrade. Is the upgrade to nougat? This is supposed to help with a lot of the internal SD card issues.

How to retrieve the data you lost? There is a Samsung Data Recovery program you can install on your PC and then connect the phone to the PC and see if you can get to it that way.

The nuclear option is to reset to factory settings, which will uninstall the software updates (and everything else you have put on the phone). Then back up everything on your card to a PC and then upgrade.

    ^ Settings - Device care - Storage

You will then see what is eating your storage (docs/images/vids/audio/apps) and delete the bastard from there.

I haven't had a moan in a while so today have two to make up... both food related.

The first was that I had tinned kippers on toast today for breakfast and then had to go out and so wear a face mask. I was doing kipper burps into the mask all morning and it was pretty disgusting.

The second was that this afternoon I was playing the 'guess what colour Skittle the other person puts into your mouth with your eyes shut game' with my daughter, and on her turn she stuck one of the wife's fried insects in me gob. I'm not particularly squeamish but I wasn't expecting that and started gagging.

She's on high alert just now but I will get her back at some point.

if you go that route - after you have factory reset , take it to the local somchai phone guru and get him to flash it with the latest AOSP firmware from xda-developers and add pico gapps and you will finally have control of your hardware

you understand flashing firmware on a devices rom ?

xda-developers is probably the place with the most third party firmwares for android devices - AOSP = android open source project - Android (operating system) - Wikipedia

you install these firmwares to free your device from the manufacturers rom and remove bloat apps that are installed with their roms

with a lot of these firmwares they come with no google apps - so then you must add them if you want to use play store etc - the different gapps packs come in different sizes for you to choose depending on how much of the goog ecosystem you want to use

if you want to be really hardcore you could flash a replicant rom

I know that it works, but not the technical details as to how. It's basically adding to and/or replacing what's on the memory - be it a chip or whatever.

Right, a typical Microsoft or Google 'feature'

    Got it.

Sounds like something sci-fi my daughter likes watching

Ok, it makes sense - I'm guessing these firmwares are downloaded - do they automatically delete the existing firmware as having several would be defeating the purpose, right? I guess they either would or you'd do it manually.

Though I was in the IT world for 20+ years it was in the Test and Measurement section, mainly ATM (not the money machines) testing with Agilent, Lucent, Anritsu . . . but I was in management and had to call Tech Support for help in turning in my laptop

Thanks, Baldrick - owe you a green.

My neighbour has acquired noisy cockerels. I'm thinking they're edible.
