    True, true . . . then there's only one plausible explanation - anti-Ant victimisation

    Another one of those days...

On the way back from work the Jag throws up a battery warning Icon...nice big red one that you know means something bad. Actually, it flashed it up a few times since Monday but I was busy and decided it could wait until next week.

This morning the car starts okay. However, he big red icon is displayed again, so I decide I'll drive the car to the garage, about 10 miles away and then walk the rest of the way to work. A mile down the road and the ABS fails, Amber alert so okay...then the DSC fails (anti-skid) Amber so okay...then the Gearbox icon comes up ...Red alert ... but I'm going to the garage anyway so carry on. These warnings are jumping between each other with a couple more I can't read but I guess the battery is failing and all will be okay as long as the engine is running. A police car does a U-Turn and starts following me...I double check the lights are on (5:30 am)...all looks okay...police car goes off, it was just coincidence. Next I lose the power brakes and power steering...and then the dash goes blank...the car is shutting down!...I change my route and limp into a nearby petrol station; as I come to a halt the car goes into full shutdown. Dead! Unable to move the gear knob, cannot apply handbrake, cannot switch off headlights. The car is Kaputt, Defekt, Dead!

I walk home (only 4 miles) and go back to bed. I guess that important meeting was never to be.

I arrange for the car to be picked up and taken to a garage for repairs. Cycle to the car at breakneck speed to meet the tow truck. Explain the situation and try to start the car. It bursts into life first time...thank goodness the Battery Red Icon is still there or I'd have looked a total dolt. Still at least it was easy to get the car on the trailer.

Not heard anything so I guess it will be no car this week-end and a bus to work on Monday.

Wife and I were in two minds whether to get an F-Type last year and have a bit of fun for our last days in Europe. I should have just done it instead of worrying about looking after her extended family...Too many kids without enough milk and food and their parents too poor to cope. (Wife had a three year old dropped in her lap today to look after for a few days...)

    Yup - a well-described and justified moan . . . but it's a Jag - often nice to look at, nice to drive . . . but . . .

I just developed a facial tic after reading about that Jag. My father has been dead for 25 years now, but he used to get me to help him fiddle with his XJS....a V12. But the pain therefrom lives on.....

To be fair, the car is 13 in June and had been very reliable.

I thought Lucas died years ago...

    You're leaving?
Yep! Leaving Europe to retire in LOS just as soon as I've arranged everything. My dad is moving to a bungalow and I need to make sure all goes well for him. We need to check household transfer costs and whether it is worthwhile moving stuff or just selling up before we leave.

Germany and the new working regulations have become a nightmare. Employee protection has become employer exploitation. They have screwed up big time....

    Hope it all goes well.

Once you move here and watch Europe from a distance rather than patches from within, you might begin to understand why Brexit happened.

Indeed, as you'll be included in the high-brow Brit expat scene

My moan is that the bugger below has gone from shisha on the weekend to the evening cigar out on the balcony below mine. So much for enjoying what few "cool" evenings are left before the hellish heat kicks in.

Can't say much for the few tourists I come across but there are some very nice Brit expats here, and also a healthy scene for social and activities, sports and charitable works.

From what I hear the Krauts and Scandis could say much the same relative to their numbers.

Oh he will be, once settled and adjusted to view the gradual disintegration of Europe from a distance, rather than being part of it as a dependent.

    Or not, we'll see.

In the southern Thai hidey-hole I hang out in there aren't any foreigners except for Burmese rubber tappers and I guess me when I blow in once a year.

Ah, yet another EU-bash, this time in the Daily Moan thread . . . well done.
