Careful, now. Don't let common sense be over-ruled.

My daughter, A TaeKwanDo Black Belt and member of the High School varsity team, just got dropped from the team. Why? She turned 18 a few days ago. There appears to be a rule, written when Filipino High School only went through Grade Ten, unlike K-12 now, that excludes 18 and over from High School varsity teams. Four other kids got bounced as well.

So, now she can join the college varsity team, but would have to pack on about 12 Kilos to make the weight.

    Very unhappy.......

Sad. Similar to when they are young and get tall enough to go on the midway rides, they are then too tall for the McDonald's play place!

Another one of those days where things start to go wrong and then get worse. A 15 minute delay posted on my flight back to Munich ends up being a little longer as a thunderstorm plants itself over Munich. Diversion to Stuttgart until it passes and then return aroun midnight. Get there and passport control is closed. Wander around airport until they open a little door and its single file through the checkpoint. Brexit seems to have happened already!

Penny squeezing company rules now mean we can't use the short term car park and the last shuttle is 5 minutes away by the time I get my baggage. I leg it to the stop just in time and it turns up late...15 minutes late. Get home at 3am and that's another week-end buggered up

Have to go back to Mandalay tomorrow and it a bit of a sulk about it! Been one of the nicest trips back "home" to Thailand yet. Very close friend had work commitments-seeing as she works at my old school I decided to visit her-highlight of the trip but hit home about how much I miss the old place-work and all. Guess Thailand, or to be specific Rangsit is always gonna feel like home.

Don't really care much for the expat scene in MDL- heavy drinking to the extreme- grew out of that in my early 20s. Just seems dull now. A rather lonely place to live in many respects. Still, could be worse.

Going to head to Paragon and look for some vegetarian diet books and grab a coffee.

    Sorry about that. Sounds unfair.

A little bit confused...."varsity" to me is an abbreviation of "university", so what is "high school" varsity?

Both High Schools and Universities have varsity sports teams. They are the students who represent the school in athletic events in a particular sport - TKD in the case of my daughter.

I got that. I just didn't understand (and still don't) why a high school team is called a university team (that is if "varsity' is an abbreviation of "university").

Slightly different usage in the USA of the same term. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varsity_team

What a thrashing. Go the Blacks
The Oz women's team did even worse in the World Cup and only managed to beat Japan (who can't beat Japan in Rugby?)

@davis - sorry to hear that abt your daughter. I guess the "over 18" rule for athletes in high school is one of the things that's been overlooked in the K-12 transition. Not too important in the grand scheme of things. It's more impt to build classrooms, train & hire teachers, upgrade facilities, etc - for the public high schools. At the moment, public HS only offer until grade 10. So poor kids who want to enroll in grades 11 & 12 have to enroll in private HS or colleges. Since these are private schools, tuition fees & etc are higher. The gov't gives discount vouchers to kids/parents from public schools who had to enroll in private, but usually it's not enough.

I have a neighbor whose kid is now in Grade 12 in a private school. The kid was in.public school before. The parents are poor and are now hard up since they have to pay higher fees.

Re: varsity, PI version follows the US one. Varsity groups in HS or college/uni enjoy certain priviledges, like discounted tuition fees. Some get stipends as well, depending on the school. The varsities represent the school in regional or national sports competitions.

Fcuking wankers. Out on my usual cycle ride this morning. First obstacle the local school. 30km speed limit. 2 zebra crossings and a 1,000 kids without any idea as to the rules of the road. They have this awful habit of overtaking you only to pull in left.

Today there's a motorcycle turning right. I pass on the inside. No pom pem. That is until this numpty decides, on a motorcycle, that he will also pass on the inside to turn right also. I hit him up the arse left hand side as he stops. Three people on the M/C. I fall onto the two passengers. The driver just accelerates away and I fall into the road. Unfortunately I can't chase after the twat and I'm left lying in the road being laughed at by many.
These fcuking numpties are the pits and I'm fcuked if I'll come the aid of one of them again. Nah, they're a bollix of a people.

If the fcuking numpties obeyed the rules of the road we could all use it in harmony but they just don't want to conform. They're selfish and ignorant and out for themselves.
Christ I've lost count of the times I've had to change my routes and times to accommodate their ignorance.
