CAT internet. Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggghhhhhh.

Second time this month I've been left without a home internet connection for multiple days. This time it's supposedly due to a fire in one of their offices.

Had to send this from my mobile. Can't post news articles in the meantime.

Was on my way to the local CAT office to rant about the outage and a CAT service truck happened to pass by in the other direction. I flagged him down and the significant other explained to him that we were still without a connection, even though the service guy said the fire damage had been repaired.

The CAT service truck followed us home and the technician spent about 20 minutes running diagnostic tests before tweaking the connection to the point where it actually works now.

Those service guys may be very busy over the next day or two if they are going to have to visit every customer to re-establish a connection for them. Guess I should count myself as 'lucky' that we happened to see the truck as it was driving by.

Time now to catch up on some news.

I get 12 GB for I think around 785 baht per month...you can pay by the month or cash up in credit via the terminal at AIS...its in English as well.

See in the top right hand corner there's a little link which says 'EN' if you click on that you get the page in English.

Yea the Eng is bogus so don't bother, go in to AIS local...if 12 GB isn't enough you can buy what you need...

3g is ok as a backup, but it's no replacement on cost or speed for a land connection.

Speed isn't startling with an air card, but then its better than TOT or the other's that I've had... speed goes down as its used up, but you can reboost anytime...

Edit: when I spoke with someone at the CAT 'help' line, I'm told that today's problem is due to a broken fiber optic cable in Kui Buri. Two days ago, the problem was a fire in the Prachuap office. No estimate could be given as to when today's problem will be fixed.

if you are on a laptop or desktop with wifi , just create a wifi hotspot on your android phone

that is all I do if I am not at home with wifi to the fibre

I recommend instaling WiFi HotSpot by sharp telecommunications and placing the on/off widget button on your homescreen -

^ I've done that before with a mobile and my old laptop. Maybe have to give it a go on my desktop when the CAT connection goes down again.

As an emergency back-up plan that would offer another alternative. I worry that it would gobble up my mobile data quota very quickly though when downloading music/movies, posting news articles with photos, etc.

I wish . . . work until 5 or 6 and then back a the hotel and spend the next few hours preparing for the next day - consulting work is tough in that you're not always presented with the whole situation beforehand

Meanwhile more sensible folks like Dillinger get off work, run to the local pub, drink and have fun all night long often forgetting the time and awaking in some sleazy females bed wondering if he should actually look at her before exiting or just mumble a few syllables and drop a few baht on the night stand and hurry off to the next days work smelling of piss, pot, alcohol, sweat and pussy.

I'm not saying I would choose a life like either of these two blokes, but I do know one of em is definitely having way more fun than the other in life.
