My daily moan is you have to eat every time you order a drink in the UK.

FFS I feel like a right fat bastard and I'm still sober...

    Daily Moan-20201206_152427-jpg

Too much salt on the Calamari and the duck spring rolls were edible at £3 each!
Had a pint in honour of Hal..

What's the point of that? To avoid overcrowded bars?

    Yes.

COVID measures. Not allowed to order alcohol only.

If eating a meal you are allowed up to four drinks. (bar snacks do not count)

Rules, probably to stop people getting pissed and having Christmas parties.
    Then spreading the virus.

sure but Christmas parties usually involve food.
seems a silly rule to me.

Roll throwing was popular in Aberdeen once upon a time, especially those returning from the offshore platforms.

In Shanghai it used to be normal to cut off a baby's arms to make to easier to beg.

It’s a blatant sop to gastro pubs. There is little margin in wet trade, but they can charge whatever the market will stand for food items.

Its interesting that Wetherspoons has gone the other way with meal deals, cutting food margins to the bone in search of the lowest common denominator as customers.

    Complete and utter bollocks.

The food restrictions cut down on the most disastrous spread of infection...visiting multiple venues.

At the vast majority of pubs the profit margin is in the booze. Unfortunately at many pubs that profit doesn’t go to the publicans, but that’s another can of worms.

You've been in camel shagging land far too long.

Money in pubs is made by selling food, how times have changed.

On Monday it seems that pubs and restaurants here in UB will be able to sell beer and wine- so long as the venue has a food menu you are good to go, the customer does not have to order food but the establishment does have to have an actual kitchen. It seems that small neighborhood bars can just go bust as they aren't owned by important people. I don't think I will be going out all the time regardless of this, it is quite possible that community spread will start again. As much as I am keen to get to the pub, I would much rather see the outbreak totally coshed so students can get back to school. This online stuff only works for the few elite international schools here, the rest simple lack the resources.

Besides, both beer and good food can be delivered to the comfort of my apartment and I don't have to go outside in -30 and below.

Imagine the response on here if Thailand had binned restrictions just so everyone could get trolleyed at Songkran.

"I have now concluded that the chicken heads are the most stupid dunderheads on Planet Earth" - N. Old-Duffer, Pattaya.

That's basically what they're aiming for at Christmas in the UK, with the tiers of a clown.

This whole lockdown has been an odd one: I could have had Louis Vuitton and Burberry delivered but not a pizza. I am hoping that come Monday people don't just start throwing house parties or I fear we will be right back to square one within the week.

And the US is much the same.

Excellent comparision with Songkran, right on the money, I'd say.

Will probably have a surge in numbers here in PI after the Xmas & NY parties, and everything in between.

I'm already seeing/ hearing karaoke parties during weekends. People passing the mic, sharing food - what could go wrong?!

Had my youngest daughter's end of year assembly . . . hundreds packed into a hall. Not a mask in sight. Not a worry in anyone's mind.

    Thanks, NZ

Can't beat a bit of Smokey Robinson.

My moan for the day is tradesmen sucking through their teeth when you ask them a simple question.

"Just do the flaming job and stop faffing around you fvcking cvnts!!!!"
