Oh dear . . . so, what will you do? I don't know how old he is but does he do chores where you can deduct the amount from? Pocket money?

    That's quite a sum.

My kids know that they are not allowed to buy 'Robux'. But I always worry, the games are sneaky the way they set up these transactions. One game recently had free things you could get each day, and next to the free is the purchase cards. But then my young fella noticed a package deal that had a big free listed (provided someone paid for the whole package) - so I had to let him know it was not free.

Could have been worse, a mates wife had £500 taken from her card in an identical incident.

He's completed a lot of homework today and will do for the foreseeable future.

When ours were younger we simply didn't allow access to our cards nor did we pay for any onlone games . . . it's just quite sad how some companies knowingly abuse situatiosn like this

I get my daughter 'Roblux' once a month... she use to get pocket money but wants these instead. The first month I did this she spent all the Roblux the first day, and then wanted more. I told her she had to wait for next month and has to learn to budget them. I'm hoping this may actually help her learn to budget money when she's older.

Ha! Fat chance... My wife's in her late 40s and has yet to learn that!

Edit: The game makers know exactly what they're doing. After paying a monthly fee, they used to give out 200 Roblux a day... this has now changed to giving out all the Roblux on the first day. I'm sure my daughter isn't the only one hassling her parents to buy more by the 2nd of the month.

I don't let my kids have access to any online purchases. It doesn't stop them wanting to buy all those 'Robux' fucking things or every micro-transaction game going and pestering me about it but they have to pay for it out of their own pocket -- which is just them giving us their pocket money back but whatevs, I've got them into investing so anything let over from that is theirs to spend how they want I suppose.

All good, that shit can be my daily moan actually.

Micro-transactions and loot boxes and all that shit in games these days (especially mobile) can fuck right off!

Bonus Kinda Related Moan: I want to buy one of those new full-size Commodore 64 emulators and can't find one to ship to Thailand!

Starting to make sense now, couldn't figure why the young one keeps asking me to buy Roblox money, which I thought they earn by playing, but he says his rich mate's bought millions and he feels deprived. No way they get my cc details, and for the next plea it'll be don't ask again!

I staunchly refused to let my son spend money on games. Not sure if he does now, but hopefully not.

In the UK the "kids using credit cards to buy the game loot" is a regular on the consumer advice programmes and it seems that those who go after the games cos get mixed results, its usually down to how much of a stink they kick up in social media - enough and the game co just wants them to shut up and they pay out.

They start early in age, transfixed as to false value/worth being reality.

    Modern times.

Picked up a big bag of chocolate peanut m&ms from the reduced counter at Makro and was well chuffed. I thought it was just what I needed to go with my Netfilx binge watching. With hindsight the bag felt a little light but I didn't pay that any attention at the time...

Turns out it's not a bag of m&ms, but a bag containing loads of little bags of m&ms, each one pumped full of air and holding about 5 m&ms at most. Bladdy rubbish... lucky if they last one evening.

Three more days to go after today and quarantine is over. Lovely sunny days this week and we are stuck in the apartment and garden.

I've been practicing my golf swing in the garden. No ball, just a couple of tees and trying to make sure I take out the forward one. Probably not the best of ideas as there are now divots everywhere.

Not really a winge*, but on the theme of Money and kids.

The Boys had come across a miniature game of Monopoly and asked to play.

I mentioned that it takes ages to play. Nope, they were unrepentant and super keen to play.

Now these are 6yo's whose concentration is akin a gold fish.

Well, didn't they love it! Session one was 3 hours.
Packed up the game, each players houses and money carefully fastened securely with a rubber band.
Took a photo of the board to remember player positions and the odd house.
Mum was supposed to play, but she was doing food deliveries so we played her hand for her.

Saturday arvo, a 4 hour session which were met with howls of protest as we packed up.

What was great was that the kids learnt, in a fun way about real life, rentals, why Dad has an Investment House,
about work and money, bills to pay for the water and electric.
Counting, adding, sequencing of paying cash and receiving (and checking) change.

Sunday ... it was on again.

Mum had some more time and joined in for a bit over an hour.

It was good for the kids as I was going through the tactics of negotiating. As in swapping property/s to create sets.

My style was to not negotiate, giving a 'fair' price and that was the deal and prepared to walk away if the answer was no.
(not always my style, but good for the Boys to see the contrast)

Mum was a gradual escalation/reduction in price until both parties were happy.

For identical Twins, one's money pile was was a chaotic pile of paper, the other, neatly laid out in ascending order.

We packed it up after 2 days of playing and the Boys have asked everyday since to start again.
Maybe the next wet week-end the board might get dusted off again.

Really enjoyed the time playing with the Boys.

*winge ... the USA spell-checker doesn't recogise the word ... it suggested that maybe I was having a wine ... but not a whine
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

^^ well that negotiating is not going to prepare them for Thailand. In the next round you must advise them that if they cannot sell at their first price then clearly they need to increase it and again and again until the buyers are so scared the asking price will get beyond their means they gladly pony up at two or even three times the original price. Their mum will help them understand the Thainess involved

^ Yep, a bit of truth saying there.

We do our best to raise the Boys, as best we can to be proud of both heritages.

More skewed to the Western way, being educated under that system, but not ignoring their Thai Blood.

'Thainess' for all it's faults, is interesting and, if they can master both ... they'll slay the Lassies in the Kingdom and maybe develop a special niche if they decide, when they are adults to reside and work there.

My Partner and I are way over arguing over 'Thainess' ... we are more akin to a usual couple arguing over 'standard' issues such as money, me drinking too much beer, her ... well, how long do you have

She's slowly getting over the 'Thai sulk', and getting into a more passionate way for speaking your mind, a fission point, without making it personal, cooling and back to the grind that relationships are built about.

I've learnt to be more Thai, keep Face, reduce conflict, accept more Paw Paw trees, the fruit of which cannot physically eaten by a tribe of friends, and 'Carry on'.

Oh, despite her poo pooing my statement of ... "Honey, in Winter, you'll learn to love how the Sun warms your skin".
    "Never"
    , was the reply.

    That was 5 years ago.
    She understands now!

^ sounds like you've found good middle ground, and the kids growing up learning from that can't be a bad thing. I've learnt to calm down a lot in the time i've been with Mrs toot and stuff that would dial up my wtf meter into the verbal zone now just usually raises a smile - i may be getting old too...

    EDIT

    Er...older too

Ordered my Monopoly Classic from Argos for £20, mule picked it up at Tesco, now awaiting delivery hopefully this year.

No more £s, only Monopoly money has been printed across the dozens of editions for the past few years. As nuts get nuttier when not slapped into a corner, maybe £s are considered racist or xenophobic or otherwise potentially offensive to someone somewhere.

Yep, good advice, if your first price is unacceptable then keep doubling up.

Another tip for parents courtesy of www psychologists, after the age of around 5 you should not let your kids win, let them learn to lose without throwing tantrums, and that in real life people get trophies for success not participation.
