Commiserations, HNZ. I myself am vegetarian, and the guy below me fires up his barbecue on the balcony below once or twice a week. It's a bit gross, but as we get on well interpersonally, I just shut the door as soon as I getra whiff.

The previous guy was a cvnt, and insisted on smoking out there, contrary to the terms of his lease. I couldn't get his real estate agent to do anything about it (long story) so as he continued to do it, I dumped a bucket of water on him. The second time, it was water that I had cooled specially in the fridge . Suddenly he decided to vape instead, and I couldn't smell that. Then he moved out. I guess that as a foreigner, you can't do that in Saudi though...

Wow premium tequila is expensive here. $40 bucks for a bottle of Patron in California. 2650B here. So just over double. Going down to Phuket for a long weekend and want one though. What the hell.

The Jag is back on the road...

New Alternator has made the car feel brand new again...

It cost me the price of a Nikon 200-500mm Telephoto lens... (well , almost!)

This was headed for the 'Daily Cheer' thread, until in typical Thai style the moment was spoiled...

During the school run this morning I stopped at a zebra crossing outside a school to let a little girl cross... she was around six or seven I would guess.

Before she proceeded to cross the road she gave me a lovely wai... and I thought how wonderful and couldn't help but smile.

But then... no fuker travelling in the opposite direction would stop for her... so she became stranded in the middle of the road.

Just as I was starting to regret my actions and was wondering what to do, another parent scurried across the road and helped the girl across, so all ended well.

What to do tomorrow morning if I see that girl waiting at the zebra crossing?

But who's gonna drive Mendip's daughter to school after he is knocked over doing his good samaritan deed?

^^ I was starting to consider that when thankfully another parent helped her across.

^ My daughter would have loved a day off, although who would have cooked her quiche this afternoon?

(a hint for tonight's Dinner thread!)

    1. WhyTF was a 6-7 year old allowed to cross the road without an adult supervising?
    2. Arseholes who will not stop to let a 6-7 year old cross on a zebra crossing deserve no mercy. Should be jailed, with no leave to appeal (or shot).
    3. Seriously, in your situation I would speak to someone at the school and suggest that they employ a crossing guard to supervise that zebra crossing.

If you have a dashcam, send the footage to the school and local plod.

Well i have the delights of manc chester for a few days. Not visited for over 10 years and its certainly gone up in the world, new offices and tower blocks going up everywhere you look. People tell me its a happening place and vibrant. I am affraid all i see is traffic, a building site and that doesn't mask that its still the shithole i have managed to avoid for a decade. Sorry Chit, Dill, Hal you can keep it, roll on Sunday.

On Sunday I decided to make a chicken curry. I like to prepare all the food before starting to cook and decided to use my best knives for some quick chopping. I have warned the wife on numerous occasions to be very careful with these knives, especially the 8" GP...it's sharp, brilliant for cutting large chunks of meat, but you need to concentrate. There was no real reason to use this knife on a couple of defenseless chicken breasts but, hell, it's so effortless I can have everything ready in a jiffy.

So, having prepared all the veg, mixed all the spices it was time to chop up the chicken. All is going well when one of the breasts slips and I grab it with my other hand...

Oops! I really should learn to practice what I preach ... A lack of concentration and the knife hand is still in cutting mode! Luckily, it hit the nail of my middle finger, which is now 3/4 of a nail. The knife took away the top right corner 1/4" square off . I say luckily, because if it hadn't hit the nail it would probably have gone straight through to the bone. Time stood still so I had a full view of the damage before the blood started to gush out.

In a nice calm manner I ran around the apartment looking for some plasters. Having found them, I emptied the box on the floor because it's bloody impossible to get one out with one hand. It's even more difficult trying to tear the packaging open and get the plaster ready for use. A slight scream as I ran the finger under cold water and wrapped the plaster on. All over in a jiffy and I felt quite proud of myself...

The plaster made a pitiful attempt at stopping the blood. A matter of seconds before it was overwhelmed and gushes of red squirted out. This was a sharp cut and was going to take more than a plaster. I wrapped the finger in kitchen towel, and another and another then some elastic bands before finally I headed for the toolkit. This needed something a bit more substantial...Duck Tape! Excellent stuff and that combined with a bag of ice pretty much did the trick, along with a couple of G&Ts.

I was going to take the bandage off on Monday but I kept hitting the finger against things...door handles, water taps, pretty much everything really, so I left it on until this morning. The finger had become painful so I decided to check out why. Wet and no air had turned it white and swollen ... looked even worse than the cut ... At least it had stopped bleeding so I could leave it to the fresh air for a few hours to recover.

All's well now, I just need to keep it covered until the nail grows back.

Only 3 weeks until I'm back in the safety of the wife...

This modern parenting, bringing children up with no gender preference is admirable, but is quiche going a little bit too far?

Staying at TheEdwardian and decided to take a stroll to Chinatown. 8 restos and nota single mixed meat chinky curry and flied lice ffs, don't they know its Britishstaple I had to settle for some Peking Duck, Dim Sum and otherstartery type stuff. I didn't want to eat a big plate one off butjust sit there filling up slowly and maximising the potential forCOVID19 contact. Passed quite a few chinks sweating and masked up.

What really got methough was the series of skanky looking beggars trying to tap me upfor a contribution to their next fix. I had forgotten how much i haterunning the gauntlet of Big Issue, Dog Beggars and Junkies thatproliferate in cities. I had one run after me f'ing and blinding atme because i refused to pony up a quid, he got a mouthful backas he was number 7 on the way back to the hotel and i was feelingless than charitable.

Thus Chitty i thankyou for your kind offer but i am working Saturday and i intend takingmy leave and returning to Wiltshire asap, I feel i sampled all i need from the fair city thanks and tbh noise, traffic and overpriced bars hasgiven me enough reason to avoid anywhere larger than Derby, Bristol, Raynesway or even salubrious Barrow-In-Gods-Country my usual UK based work haunts

Enjoys the bike and watch the Top Gear Vietnam special for tips in riding and maintaining those hairdryers.
