This morning I rummaged into wifey's handbag looking for one of our two sets of keys both of which she invariably manages to bury in there, so I wouldn't need to use the emergency set with a huge leather Harley fob that guarantees it won't get lost. That's not my moan, but I suddenly realised that if you cleaned all the receipts out of your lady's handbag and stack them together it would make a teeny book about why you're broke.

After resisting as much as I could due to them changing where everything is stacked, I reluctantly had to go back to Tesco Lotus yesterday and what happens I bloody lost it at the checkout! Every month for ages I have been paying the electricity bill there at the checkout with no issues.
BUT now they wanted an ID.
No have will my Thai driving licence suffice?
    No need ID!
No have will my Passport suffice?
    No need ID!
    I don't f**k**g have an ID!

Do Thai people understand that foreigners don't have a Thai ID card?

That's it I will go west now instead of east and shop at Big C until they give me the shits.

CP is making noises about buy Tesco again. Given most sizable places have both shops it'll be interesting to see if they wave the monopoly card at CP.

Many, if not most (taking into account Cambodians and Burmese) have a Thai ID card. Same as the Thai ID card, except it is pink.

Go to your local district office, get a Yellow Tabien Baan (TR13), which registers you at your address, then you get your very own Thai ID card, which is for life btw, it never expires.

The poster OhOh got his a month or 2 ago. JPPR2 has his. Etc etc.

I've shown them a British pink driving licence and said it's a British ID card, and they accept it because they know no better.

Unfortunately to do all that would probably require my Missus to be cooperative for at least an hour or so and that is a rare event.
I was telling her about the Tesco situation and happened to mention that my German friend who is married to a friend of hers has and ID i.e. a pink card.
So she starts telling me that's because he has a different Visa, I say bullshit his is the same Visa as mine.
Well he can get it because he has to drive all around to different provinces etc. again I say bullshit.
So then her response is, "well get him to f**king help you get the ID then."

I know JPPR2 has one but he also has a work permit and a cooperative wife so both different to my situation.

Part of the problem is I she think she doesn't want to go with me to deal with Thai bureaucracy as when they start talking crap I lose it and she doesn't want to be embarrassed.
Also sometimes I think she just doesn't like being seen with such an old hansome man.
In the end if I want something done I usually have to do it myself.

You two must be quite a site at the Tesco till when you're out shopping together and something goes wrong, Ootai. Any chance you could get a friend to video one of these events and post it here?

I fully understand, I don't go shopping with the wife... But, it's still funny. Sorry.

I pay the bills at the local 7/11 and have done for years. This month they wanted my ID card. I proudly gave my pink foreigners Thai ID card to them, unfortunately the pink ones, dont have a chip, which Thai citizens ID cards do. Their very expensive, state of the art computer and official software apparently ignores the fact that many foreigners pay Thai bills.

I went home asked my wife for her ID card and returned with her ID card, they accepted it without any questions. The accounts are in her name.

One does not require a work permit, a valid visa and the "cooperation" of the house master/landlord are, along with a Tessa Ban official to vouch that I am an upright citizen was enough. Plus of course all the ID stuff, with Thai translations and pretty official stamps.

It did take a few months but it appeared to be an unusual request and all the local officials wanted photos of the "presentation". Their next advancement requires a certain number of satisfied customers, foreigners and locals, I assumed.

There is a thread outlining the procedure.

Just pay the elecricity bill at the PEA office. Or get the wife to pay the bill if that's too much hassle.

Or, you go your way she goes hers, call when you're ready and meet at the checkout.

Then squabble over duplicates; only joking, the secret is to arrange separate routes, meet to compare and for reminders partway, then at the cashier.

Her route at Makro: fruit and veg, through fish, connect with me at cheese and dairy, then the entire freezer area and meat counter, connect somewhere along the far back section (drinks to crisps/nuts), question mark if we need anything from along toiletries, otherwise meander through the aisles between drinks and office/cashiers for general household stuff.

My route: circle fruit and veg for impulse, dairy, cross to olive oil strip + gondolas, sometimes take in the central freezer line for Indian stuff which tbh is crap but better than nothing, over to back section for drinks to crisps, meet up, wander the aisles.

TiT, leave nothing to chance, works well.

And a tip for main weekly shopping: don't start out hungry.

Frok that, we never go shopping together that would be WW3. If we go shopping to Korat (90km drive) we each take our own car..
As for shopping locally I usually do it all as she works and I like to go so I can treat myself to an icecream, just a big kid really.

If I was smart like some people here I would multi quoye but I haven't learned how to do that so I will just increase my post count by answering each individually/

    Ootai,
Why don't you have it set up for auto pay from your bank. I have both my water and electricity set up that way. I get a line message when they have withdrawn the money and the total. I still get the electric and water bill in my mail box for my records.
