^ Not far off. Found the cache of missing socks buried in the garden. As the missus has been hanging them out to dry, my dog has been nicking them and burying them in the fucking soil..
Full points for recycling.
Everytime I read a story similar to yours, and they are many, I am so happy with my choice in Thai Partner.
She's settled in The West. Not seemlessly, not without a few speedbumps but everyday is not a battle, everyday is not
lived as if it was in Thailand.
She still loves her (extended) Family and the Kingdom, but life is fairly normal here.
---
Speaking of that extended Family ...
Mine was normal for the first 12 years.
Wait till she hits 40, they all go mental.
Mine is 41 next month....

Fu*k, Fu*k, Fu*k, Fu*k, the future Nephew, 13/14 years old was Hospitialised recently.
He lives in the Thai FarmHouse, Mother lives a few Klms away with her bf, but visits often.
He was bought, despite my very vocal protests and low powered scooter when he turned 12 then,
earlier this year, a 'normal' (more powerfull) scooter.
Failing miserably @ School ... is there basically because of athletic abilities.
So ... he started with sever cramps, short seizures etc. Steadily worsened.
Decision made to visit the local Gov't hospital.
Getting worse and almost released but the Doctor, thankfully, kept him in overnight for observation.
Got worse. His 1/2 cousin (it's complicated) kept asking ... Drugs?
NOPE ... 100% NOPE
His best mates Mother rang and informed us that he (the best mate) was also in Hospital.
Confessed that he had been experimenting with drugs.
What I can grasp it was 'Poppers' mixed with something else.
Fu*king lack of Parental Guidance.
Thankfully my Thai Partner agrees with me that while we love the Kingdom (her more then me) there is
no way our kids will be raised there.
Visit often, maybe return to living there for an extended period, but left to their own devices as the
Nephew was ... no way ... never na.
What makes it personal for me is that we all lived in the same house for years, more or less 10 Thais and me.
I hope he recovers soon and there are no lasting ill effects.
Im sure you know this David, but for the benefit of less experienced souls, this is Thai life. Whatever we may think or believe as western observers, they key to living here is to understand the importance of family life to all Thai people, especially the extended family.
Matriarchal in nature, the Thai man is assured of attention from cradle to grave. The ladies are the glue that holds it all together. Some are very good at it, others not so much.
Bottom line is, even the waifs and strays have someone to turn to in a crisis. Grandmothers, aunties, cousins. Always someone to pick up the pieces if it goes wrong as it so often does.
There’s also some great family groups who survive together because they understand the importance of the family collective.
A stay in a Thai government hospital tells you all you need to know about family here. Of course the hospital will provide medicine surgery and doctors and nurses to get you healthy again, but your personal care is a family resonsibility. That’s why hospital wards sometimes resemble a rock concert camping ground, with mama sleeping on a mat under your bed, just in case you need the bathroom.
The first time you witness it, there is a feeling of wtf. Eventually you come to realise that the Thai family system of love and care is in action, and it is a wonder to behold.
The Thai family is their welfare state, their safety net.
...^a rather idyllic view of Thainess, imo...admittedly, goes some way toward offsetting the downsides of self-defeating Third World behavior, but still contributes powerfully to the culture we see today...
^ ^^ ... both posts I can understand and appreciate.
I lived, swam in their cesspit, been enlightened by their deep Culture, lived 100% Thai*.
What frustrates me, from a Western Perspective is their lack of desire to reach their potential.
A Generalization, of course, but you get my drift.
Plus the lack of Parental Guidance as we know it in the West.
As mentioned before, I like this guy, Oom a lot. Almost like a Son to me.
One day in TESCO we had Lunch in the Food Court. Most times I pay, but not for the extended Family but ...
Omm and his Mum was with us and helping greatly with the Kids.
I offered Lunch ... meaning I put 300 Baht on the TESCO Card (no BIG spenders comments required) and we get
food for all.
I'm feeding the kids and Oom goes off to refund the card and return the change.
But the bastard skims off 40 Baht and hands me the change.
Of course I notice and mention it and ark up.
he puts his hand in his pocket and passes me the 'notes' and the Thai Partner says 'mai pen rai' he does it with everyone,
his mum teaches him to do. 'Everyone' meaning the Thai Adult paying.
He has a HUGE heart and plays with our kids but has had his Moral Compass pointed in the wrong direction.
GRRRRRRRRRRR ...
* Drew the line @ Chicken Feet, anything Raw and any dish which would make a Mexican red-faced.
While there may be a few errors of omission in my post, for the majority, it’s true.
I didn’t mention the out and out nutters or the supercilious hiso elites either.
The subject is a huge one and I reckon i did a fair précis in general terms. Happy to be corrected of course.
Applied for a job in Mongolia ages ago, I never heard from them so presumed I didn't get it. An email today asking basically when I plan on arriving. Not exactly a good sign of professionalism but I think Mongolia would be an interesting place to spend a year or two. Still excited about China but wish some schools were a bit better at replying to emails.
...you might write them back and mention the email delay so they have some idea why they have a problem recruiting staff...
You cannot please everyone
Many say their great
Another claims their shit
The masses fvcking rule
So take the hint!
Beer o'clock comes early in Pattaya.
Well, Tom, have you?
Whatever "spiked up" means.
Just read 10 of my favourite comics on Go Comics, only found 1 of them funny!
Getting old I think!!!
Who'd have thought NOT working could be close to maddening. I'm really looking forward to starting the new job. Want to do DIY stuff outside but the weather is looking decidedly stormy.
