A fcuking Knuckleduster. Okay, it's made of plastic some may say. But that plastic is as hard as plastic comes. I took my son's off of him after explaining the danger of it even through play.

^I still have all the originals in my laptop and external HD, so no problem there. But yeah, it needs patience on my part to make a pic thread, bcos my net is slow. So those threads took lots of time & effort on my part. I counted - I have/had 11 pic threads, and only 1 remains with pics. I particularly liked the Sagada & Pinatubo threads, bcos it involved some hiking or spelunking, so my activities were more physical and I felt I had achieved something after those trips (the feeling of climbing a mountain - maybe some can relate). It was fun to post the pics & recall the memories.

Oh well... life goes on...

Sad day today. Super sad.

Just learned one of the elementary school teachers on base here in Japan passed away yesterday.

He was at his newly built home in Chiangmai for the summer and apparently slipped at his pool and smashed his head.

He had just watched his Thai step-daughter graduate from the University of Iowa earlier this year and retirement in Thailand was one more school year away.

Mr G you were a great man and will be missed by many.

Not even a week in his new home. He'd just accepted the keys on June 28.

And he turned 67 on July 1st.

Retirement was on the horizon with a nice teacher's pension and a fat social security check.

Makes you feel bad doesn't it when a person's dream is about to come true and it's snatched away.

Not a moan really, but a scary realisation.
Yesterday I was cut off at a roundabout by a car coming from my left. As I do when I'm absolutely in the right, I stopped as I had to but really close and gave a very long blast of the horn. They guy stopped, wound down his window and said "Come, come, come and talk to me over there" pointing ahead.
"Sure".
So I followed him off the roundabout where he stopped and angrily told me I don't know "Thai traffic". I pointed to the sign on the roundabout and asked if he can read Thai and that he has to give way to his right....he didn't even look and just sneered and said "No...this is Thailand, car go first. Bike give way."
The argument went of for another 30 seconds and he said he was in a hurry to pick up his son otherwise he would teach me "Thai traffic", and he took off.
His English was quite good, but by "traffic" he mean traffic regulations.

The scary thing is, he was absolutely convinced that road signs and road rules are superseded by "car has right over bike".
I'm not surprised by driver's ignorance, but this really hit it home.

I think I have dengue. Woke up this morning a box of birds. Did some sit-ups, some push-ups, and some chin-ups. Felt great.
By 10 am I was feeling urgh, had a fever of 38.5, and my whole body and all my joints ached. I don't have a rash, but sunlight stings my skin. Had a nap.Easily fell asleep. 50 minutes...felt goodish. But burning up again. I can't stand the fan as I feel chilled to the bone with goose bumps and shivers. Want to nap, but can't nod off despite "relaxing meditation music for deep sleep" playing on Youtube.
Looks like Hong Tong will be the medicine to get some sleep and get through this.
Expect some drunken posts later, , if I'm awake.

Nasty bug is Dengue- had it once and wouldn't wish it on anyone. Swift recovery! Took me a good 3 weeks or so to feel 'normal' again.

Got mugged yesterday. Was out riding my mountain bike in a Herculean effort to loose the beergut. Nearly home when 2 coonts on a scooter attempted a snatch n grab fror the small bag on my frame. ( nothing in it) i flew over the handlebars and hit the tarmac . Snapped the bone in my arm and fractured the elbow. I'm in Bangkok udon hospital for the next 9 days. Had operation yesterday but still need 1 more to insert titanium plates.

It could of. Thankfully I was wearing a helmet. Bag snatching is getting out of control here. There were witnesses and my mother in law was told by the nai baan that theres cctv of it. Vientiane rescue free ambulance service done an excellent job of scooping me up and some kind lo als tore up a shirt to tourniquet where the bone went thro7gh the skin ( ouch) i was taken to 150 hospital and poked and prodded and eventually given some morphine. Which wasnt all that great ( ive had better panadols) my wifes auntie organised an ambulance to get me to udon

But hospitalization improves your chances of surviving it. Obviously all depending on the strain you have.
