Get a really loud whistle on some string around your neck.
Next time they attack the high pitched scream will frighten them off.

Ammonia and water mixed in a water piston and squirt the dogs they won't be back. Vinegar also works if you can't find ammonia.

There's many variants of dog deterrents. Each to their own but I've tried a few. The one that works for me is a 1M cane to which I hammer nails into one end. Similar to this but more crude. If I see the dog(s) ahead I usually only need to show it. The unfortunate thing for me I hold it in my right hand and if I don't see the dog and it attacks from the left then I have to change hands quickly to swipe them. That's what happened yesterday in that upon changing hands I lost balance.

The other unfortunate thing is that if you fall off the bike, there is a fairly good chance you will fall onto that mace.

    (Ahem)....sorry for laughing.

I'd be making up a solution of chilli in a long-distance water pistol. That way, if the idiots who own the dogs decide to accuse you of something nasty like spraying acid, you can just tell them "chilli" in Thai.

Could it be that the dogs are aggressive because you are brandishing a stick?

Nah. When I first took up cycling a couple of years back I never took fook all. I still got attacked. I bought one of those Ultrasonic sound devices, they don't work. A lot like a monk. I've tried a kids cap gun. I've tried going over to the other side of the road etc etc.
Then I took up the 1m stick with nails. Once they've been hit by that they don't re-offend. As said, these dogs have seen me go past them, on a regular basis, for 2 years and never a problem. Then totally out of the blue they attack. I don't blame the dog I blame the owner. But unfortunately there seems to be no law to make owners accountable.

Not wanting to be alarmist, but....

Did they nip you or break your skin ? Because sudden, out-of-character viciousness in dogs in Thailand might indicate rabies.

What usually happens when being attacked by dogs if I stop quickly and face them they just run off and bark from a distance. I understand about rabies and that is why I cycle with a stick in hand.

My missus now goes cycling but only in a group. For some reason the soi dogs don't attack groups. I prefer to cycle alone so I only have myself to blame for being a target. I'm more worried about those lorry trailor's than I am of dogs. That's another story.

We don't have Soi dogs, but we have Farm dogs.

Apart from one moungral bitch who (almost) permanently wears a mussel, the only time they have had a pop at me riding the postie bike on the way to Ma n Pa Shop to buy vital supplies (Cold Leos) was when a bitch had a litter and we had to ride through owners place.

She was defending her territory. So, for me, it was a seasonal change.

Working out of the office for a few days. Today was a grind, having to give the whole nidhogg dog and pony trick show. Dinner was seafood and rice.

Although to be fair the sea food was a beautifully fried calamari with garlic aioli dip, followed by a truffle risotto, washed down with a bottle of a very passable red wine.

Red wine with calamari? I mean, come on. What is that all about?

    Nidhogg. Roughing it.

    Steamy and darn hot here.

    Can't sleep.

Was repairing the fence today and, in the midday heat made a poor decision which I'll have to fix tomorrow (later today). The sweat was running down my face and I bent over and started to form small puddles in my glasses.

Plus the Washing Machine shat itself 2 days ago. 10 years of faithfull service, so I've had a good run and with young kids, it had it's fair share of use.

But had to go out and buy a new one, which then turned into 'lunch' with the missus ... so that was yesterday almost shot for working.

Raining now ... hopefully will clear soon so that I can fry my brain in the heat again tomorrow.

As an aside, the above is just a whinge.

My heart goes out to those members whose relatives are very sick or have recently passed. Both my parents have passed, a long time ago, but they are still remembered ... and missed.

Time to crack a coldie, some heat relief and try for some sleep again in an hour.

Hi ..back in my hometown , waiting to have cataracts removed. Using public transport. Staying near the city ..constantly get asked for cigs, money, drugs(when I come out of the hospital..have offered to buy food for people..then get called white trash..among other names..
People here have a choice..if the choose booze or drugs, its their problem..Taxpayers, bear the brunt of this..
The problem is that Australia is becoming a very dangerous place for people to live..
Never had this problem in any Asian country I have lived in...
Why should I have to say sorry to the "stolen generation"

Just called my Dad and hesrd there was a duusting of snow where he was on Friday morning and that was it. All gone now and you'd have missed if you had a long lay-in.

Final part of our journey home was an early morning drive in the snow. Not easy at the best of times but after 22 hours drive/fly it's worth a moan...

Side swiped today by a mocy while doing a legal left turn into shopping mall parking lot. Fecking idiots.

He fell onto the ground and was holding his arm. Wife attended to him while I shouted at him. mocy taxi guys painted around the vehicles.
