Got me thinking of White Horses.

Chick I was banging at the time said the music's by Leftfield. Just don't quote me on that.

^My memory is of it being one of the few good tracks on their hotly anticipated (after the epic Leftism) but ultimately disappointing 2nd album.

But I have not listened to it in 20 years so might give it a spin

Started painting this one last week plein air as it’s just round the corner from our home in Frinton thinking I could get away with it as it’s a huge area and very few pedestrians as you can see it’s as rough as guts and full of puddles , however one of the local busybodies started going off at me so I just packed up and went home , Incant be arsed with the aggro anymore

oil on box canvas 400mm by 300mm

I was inspired by this thread and nigelandjan's contributions when making my New Year's Resolution for 2021. I like to learn something different each year and decided to attempt to learn to draw this year. I resigned to the fact that I am not an artist many years ago, but with retirement rapidly approaching I thought I would have a go and at least try.

The goal is to paint birds and butterflies using acrylic, but there are a few hurdles that I have to jump, first being to actually be able to draw.

I have a couple of beginner's drawing books and have set aside at least 20 minutes a day for the first hurdle, learning to draw. Half the Lunch break at work seemed like a good idea, so I started on 7th Jan. It's nearly 2 week's later and I have kept up the pace, reaching the dizzy heights of Lesson 14.

I thought I'd have a go at the blue tit I photographed a week or two ago, using some cheap kid's sketch pad and pencils...

It's still a long way to go before I become a budding amateur painter but it's certainly relaxing.

Some great work in here. I can't draw to save my life but I took a shining to techy drawing at school and chose it as one of my subjects.

Today I was asked to draw what I was needing for a storage container with shelving so I knocked up a wee isometric. I was really missing my T-square, set square and isometric paper, but armed with an HB and a piece of card for a ruler, I knocked this up and it was a pain in the arse.

My old man did that once and wanted me to get something built and shipped.

Pain in the ass was right. do your measurements take into account the thickness of the timber? and or any doors, hinges that need to be added?

Looks like the thickness is 2cm and distance between shelves is 80cm.

    Nice design Dirk.

^ If evenly spaced, then the 160cm measurement should be 164cm.

Material 2cm thick and 84cm from bottom of 1st shelf to top of 2nd shelf.

Gap from top of 2nd to bottom of 3rd should be 80cm. (84cm+80cm=164cm)

...Where is the total width of the shelf?

Always start with a datum and go from there.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

No timber required, I't just a rough idea using another container we have as a rough template.

Thanks Bogon, I'm not worried about evenly spaced and slightly larger on the bottom is better. Shelf width is 72cm all round leaving 100cm isle in between.

I took my measurements from the cabin pictured below and I'll submit those pictures with my drawing.

I bagged a mickey mouse ruler this morning at 7/11 and tidied it up a little.

Very good well done , but I wouldn’t limit yourself to acrylics , give oil a try if you can , you only need the three primaries plus a white however having a go with anything is better than nothing .

oil is so much more forgiving and user friendly , well for me anyway , I actually gave my acrylics away I got frustrated with em

keep up the good work ,when you do retire and sit down to paint the time will fly

A few days ago, I saw this picture of the snow in Frinton. I wonder if Nigel was able to get out and about to paint some snow scenes.

Used up an old piece of board and some paint I had left on the pallete to make an impressionistic view of wivenhoe sunrise , a place I have attempted to paint many times before ,, bit crap I know but just a use up of materials instead of binning it , all practice and plenty of time in my armoury
