Is that a painting? Dayum, I thought it was a photo!
Something a bit different now from me ,, the biggest canvas I’ve ever attempted 1.5 metres by 1.0 metre ,, a request from the wife to paint a large box canvas to go on the wall above our dining table .
This is a scene on the river Stour a bit further up from Dedham in Sudbury ,,, this is Lady Bridge at the bottom of Friars meadow ,, or what’s left of it , this bridge has survived 2 world wars and has loads of history , I painted plein air right there in this spot last Monday in the sunshine to get a feel for it , now I’m painting this box canvas in my conservatory clamped down onto my windowsill via bits of wood I temporarily screwed into the back of the frame as I don’t have an easel anywhere near the size needed for this beast.
I shall complete this painting using a limited pallete of only the colours Constable would have used back in the day , so hopefully it will have a bit of an historic feel to it instead of some of the spaced out colours being used today , anyway I’ve kicked it off today by masking a border round the edge and underpainting the scene in vermillion a colour Constable used ,, as basically loads of greens will be going on top of this allowing its colour wheel opposite to give it a little lift off the canvas , will be back later as and when this is dry and I can proceed
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs
I’m looking forward to seeing this project progress!
Right bit of an update for you ,, having to discipline myself to keep strictly within Constables very limited pallete , of course with todays modern designer pigments there are many shortcuts to achieve your ideal colours much easier,
This is a fantastic way to learn to mix your colours and values and I’m learning no end here if nothing else.
It will be a long time before I have a finished painting I’m happy with.
(( just a seperate word of thanks for those who have been kind enough to message me all the best with my health issues ,, I’m very sorry I have little clue how to reply or even send a green nowadays so please don’t think I’m being ungrateful ,,, i have a long gruelling road ahead but I’m making the most of everyday ))
Great stuff best wishes
Little bit of an update for you
Sorry this is going to be a long long process , lots of glazing which requires lots of drying between layers ,, I’m also keeping my paint very very thin in layers as I can’t stand lumps of paint on a canvas ,, each to their own but it’s not going on this one for me
Please understand this isn’t the painting at this stage ,, this is merely and under painting that will have many layers over it yet .
I have a massive 3 month daily treatment in front of me and I’m hoping to do a glaze on this in different areas each day when I get back from hospital to give me something to look forward to as the days will be of little use for much else
Sorry the poxy thing hasn’t downloaded properly ^ but if you click on it then it will appear as intended
It’s working now. Already looking amazing. Get healthy soon and thanks for the updates!
