^very nice, Nigel. Congrats on finishing another painting.

I had the urge to do something artistic/ craftsy and I was choosing among crochet, cross stitch or oainting. I disregarded cross stitch since my eyes aren't as good as before and threading a needle is now tough - I must use the big needle now! Also, cross stitch patterns that I saw online are quite complicated. Might take me ages to finish it (or I might abandon it altogether).
For crochet, I've no desire to make a doily, tablecloth, blanket or blouse. (I've made 2 crocheted blouses many moons ago.)
So I chose to paint. I used to sketch & paint (watercolor) as a kid. Now, I can't be arsed but I still wanted to paint. So I chose the "easy way out" and bought a Paint with Numbers kit from Lazada. :)

Here's my cross stitch project from 1999. There's another one in my room at my parents' house, also of dogs (my former pets). This dog cross stitch was from a pattern on the 'net.

^it's a small kit, 20 x 20 cm. I wanted to start with something small & simple.

The canvass/ cloth is a bit coloured to coordinate with the numbers/ different colors. It also came wiyh a wooden frame. In the larger ones (30 x 40 cm or 40x50 cm, frame isn't included)
After 1.5 hrs of painting:

Another short break, then continued. Partially finished after 5 hrs of painting today:

^I'll give it another coat of paint tomorrow. The kit came with acrylic paint - it was my 1st time to use such type of paint.
I've also found that my hands aren't as steady as before. (alas!) I have much respect for surgeons who are able to perform intricate operations and painters/ artists who have a steady hand.
I'm satisfied with my efforts and I think I'm ready to paint a bigger one. Will order another one from Lazada - it's already in my cart! Lol. I'll have more artwork to put on my walls. :)
Very good Katie , any art at any level is a wonderful way to pass your time and get away from the worries of the world ,, well don
I very rarely have a go at still life and for good reason ,, I love landscapes
However this silver plated coffee pot was salvaged from a boot sale and sat nicely on the windowsill with a couple of pieces of fruit in front of the backlit venison blind so I thought I’d have a go ,.

From a distance, that looks like it could be a photograph, Nigel. Well done!
Thanks ,, ^ Yes it’s not something I usually do as I said so I was pleasantly surprised to see my fumblings fall relatively into place
Anyway managed to pick up an absolute bargain today on marketplace ,, a secondhand leather topped desk full of drawers for me to paint on and better organise my paints and brushes in , just £20 it was ,, had to pop over to Harwich to get it and put a couple of handles back on it but I love it

^very nice, nigel. Looks very peaceful. Great looking cabinet too.
I've finished the small sunflowers painting and am now working on a larger painting. Still "paint by numbers" and the theme is cats. Will post it here when it's done.
Awesome find, Nige!
Umm...are you sure, katie?
:smileylaughing:
It might be a bit like pb barging in on spamdreth's 'athletes' thread with a pic of her pole vaulting with her knockers out.
imo
Managed to paint out in the sun at West Mersea boatyard last Saturday oil on mdf

^very nice, Nigel. Superb as usual.
I've finished my "cats" paint by numbers. Took around 3.5 weeks. It's now hanging in my bedroom wall - makes me happy coz it reminds me of my former cats. (And isn't that what art is - to give happiness or satisfaction)

Thanks Wills for asking ,, obviously I don’t want to go into details on here , but the honest answer is I’m not in a good situation health wise , but fingers crossed by the end of the year hopefully will be in a better place .

That turned out very well Katie. Top effort!

Although I can't help but feel that the 70% version is in some curious way slightly more eye-catching and intriguing

I think you should post up the next effort in %-age stages with a poll thread to decide when to stop

Bodacious brushwork as always Nige.
Good health to you Sir.
^^thanks for the pics, Nigel. Out of the 3 recent ones that you've posted, my fave is the last one (green meadows). I hope your health improves with time.
Yes, I'm enjoying the paint by numbers. It's a great stress reliever. I listen to music or podcasts/ YT while painting.
Edit:
@looper - thnx for the compliment! I'll see if I can take pics of my next project when it's 50 or 70% done.
I don't come on this thread much, but I do enjoy art.
Katie, I really like your sunflower painting and your kitties painting. Well done! I could see how it could be a great hobby and stress reliever.
Nigel - Lovely paintings.. Wow! I really like the sunrise oil painting and all the landscape ones. I take pictures, but can't paint well at all. I'm envious of people that can. I am more musical which I guess is also creative in a different way. We have tons of art around our apartment though. Do you sell your pictures? You really should!
Read the thread and you just might find out.
Thanks all for the above comments and well wishing ,, and yes anything I paint is up for grabs , sometimes people message me an offer which helps with the costs of the hobby and is gratefully received
The water continues to fall in the Dedham Vale and the swans are confused on the meadows
