Just about the time I would be getting excited and an amazing depiction Nigel, really takes me back to my childhood skiing holidays in Chamonix. Some really amazing pieces, do you have a catalogue of your work online so that I may peruse your oeuvre.

That Flatford bridge painting didn’t hang about long , and the neighbour of the person that bought it has now kindly commissioned me to do another painting ,, happy days.

In the meantime I have managed to get hold of a load of 6mm off cuts of MDF and for the first time I’ve cut these boards down to size with my table saw , not only given me very accurate precisely cut boards also at a fraction of the time pissing around with a tendon saw .

I have just done a couple of observation pieces , NO sketching just straight in with the paint only allowing 45 mins on each piece , these are not paintings just pure observation , trying to paint what is actually in front of you exactly as it is NOT what you think you are seeing , if that makes sense

The iconic stripes in the grounds of The Le Talbooth restaraunt beside the Stour as it flows through Dedham

I started this on a plein air location sketch earlier this year , then worked it up into a much bigger studio piece

oil on MDF sitting in a float frame I made for it

A much more impressionistic style than you usually employ. Looks good.

Hi Nige, hope all's good. What age did you start painting, and have you had any formal training? I suspect it's just raw artistic talent, though.

It’s a nice picture but there is really nothing of interest in that scene. nothing to draw the viewer in

Yes 100% agree ,, it was football day and a parking blanket ban anywhere near where the misses was having her hair done ,, this was just the first place I came across for a couple of hours fresh air I just didn’t have time to fanny around driving plus rain was forecast within 2 hours.

My alternative was to sit in the living room where the wife was getting done and listen to her husband bore the shit out of me about what a shite place Thailand is and how he’s never going to set foot there again etc blah blah ,, tbh I avoid all these wife / husband gatherings here for that very reason ,, I just Chuck a couple of tins of beer in the room for them say hello and politely explain I’m off out painting and will see them later.

We have a lot of flooding after some real heavy rains here in Constable country , so here I have taken advantage of the lovely reflections available on the pasture that’s normally covered in cow cak

oil on canvas for a treat today
