Praise indeed , thankyou very much ,, allthough if I am to be truthful much of what occurred ,, did just that , it occurred , but nevermind I have learnt from what you have said for future missions.

Anyway as it stands the scores on the doors 1 0

BTW after this little challenge you can post up a pic that does inspire you , and I will try my best shot at it with you .

A little progress to report on the ongoing oil job at the moment ,, the problem here is I am at the stage of glazing various areas ,, this in effect is using paint with transparent values mixed up with various carrying mediums thinly on and then virtually wiped off again , you can see one area I have been busy in on the l/h side of the little bridge moving in toward the /h side top in effect putting this area to shade , but transparently so we can still see under the glaze , in effect making the light side lighter without doing anything to it other than making the dark , darker.

This process will take a while untill I darken it to my liking , dont forget when you paint its your individual painting so YOU do what you like ,, others will have an opinion , fair enough we aint all gonna like the same thing .

Done a bit of work on the reflections , in that black area near the left of the bridge I will put a pile of rocks ,, some highlights and shadows to go into the river, today but then I just have to wait for each glaze to dry untill I'm done .

In this weather here a light glaze takes about 4 or 5 dayse to dry enough to get the next one on top .

    Cheers happy painting !

Thanks S.will , its been a busy weekend for me and I have really enjoyed every minute , a fair bit of painting done . I have also done a fair bit more to this one since I posted it, a fair bit of pushing and pulling , you know how it is with oils , you have the time to re adjust it all . main problem I have this time of the year is light , or indeed the lack of it , so it all has to be crammed into the weekend.

To the poster who has greened me today , ( your id,s safe ) firstly thankyou for your comments and secondly please contribute and join in with your work , it will be great to see .

I have been absolutely thrilled at the amount of views and interest shown in this thread , if anyone is thinking I would like to have a go but dont know where to start , please by all means just have a go at your interpretation of anything I have put up on here. You would be surprised how differently we all view the same scenes .

A bit extreme, I agree. I think I based it on a photo of a real event, however.

    Oil on card, again.

It was a bit of an experimentation, and while I'm so so happy with it, I think there's areas that could be better.

It's a funny old world isn't it? I've always preferred to look at watercolours over oils (with my untrained and talentless eyes).

Anyway, N+J I find your gentle, unassuming style very pleasing viewing, Loy Toy will be a lucky man to have some of your fine work on his walls.

Thanks indeed QC and KW ,, do you know for years I positively hated watercolours ,, just through ignorance really as I had never even tried em ,, anyway bout 15 years ago I had my first shot.

Oh dear ,, I very nearly ended up throwing it all in the bin ,, its so much harder IMO than oils or pastels ,, there is no second chance in watercolour ( strictly speaking ) you really cannot either go over or correct anything , its a one go live performance.

Also I dont know if you are aware but there is no WHITE colour in watercolour painting any white you see in a picture is purely reserved colour , so you have to look after those areas very carefully.

I will try and do a stage by stage picture ( s ) of me doing one to explain sometime on here , also if I can I will try and do a small video also on here for interested parties.

    Cheers

Eh? Are you referring to me, I don't recall giving out much advice, given as Grade 11 Art class is about as far as I go. And as for producing more, I'm interested but currently snowed under with work and can't see myself getting a chance any time soon(ish).

But I did find a couple of blanks canvas frames in the back room that I've dragged out, and I did find a large tube of titanium white oil paint....

Purchase a couple more colours and a few brushes and I might just be in business...

edit, I see he's referring to Humbert...

I don't own an easel. If I actually felt the need, which I don't, to respond to your goading I would have to go out and make a substantial investment in oil painting supplies. You are just going to have to wait to see my paintings when and if I choose to do some. I see by your sarcasm that you are still smarting from my comments. Chill out.

I bought some oil pastels which I hate. I have to use brushes. I have no control over detail with oil pastels and I don't like the fact that you can't put light opaque colors over dark colors. I know oils. I don't do watercolor because I have not done much of it and have no confidence in the medium. I can do airbrush with tempera but I no longer own the equipment. I really need to go out and buy a shit load of oil painting supplies to do this the right way.
