    True , but then the whole bussines looks very tricky indeed.
    Everytime I think about getting my unused painting equipment out and having a go here, some bounder raises the bar again ,
    our Nigel been the main culprit...

    I thought I'd try from the digital painting angle; but even that requires an art grounding I don't have -so many brushes ,washes, pencils , blending modes etc .
    I did had a go and enjoyed it very much , but not on a full painting yet.

    Still, it has provided a nice outlet for my kleptomania, and have shoplifted several painting programmes .
    I have the pro versions of

    Corel Painter 12
    Art Rage 4
    Paint Tool Sai
    Sumo Paint Bamboo 2.2
    Sketch Book Pro 6
    Manga Studio 5
    Project DogWaffle Howler 8 ( though only a, slightly , crippled version )

    Anyone know of any more ?
    To be honest, I find most stuff like this easier with a pencil and a bit of paper.

    I used to be a trainee draughtsman and was top of my class at school, but can I get the hang of the computer design programs? Can I bollocks!

    Just get a bit of nice art paper, a pencil, some cheap arse watercolours and see what happens. You're not going to show yourself up in the present company (except for Nige of course).

    TBH , I had,nt noticed that till you mentioned it QC , I honestly thought we was around the 11k mark .

    It is a great credit to all you lads getting your brushes out and taking part , well done all and I hope we can all go on and learn from each other.

    One thing I have noticed is that EG + KW both have very distinctive styles which IMO are very similar in as much as they are not afraid to lay the colour on and both use very definate confident strokes ,, not trying to get too deep , but makes me wonder if that reflects theyre personalities ? not looking for answers just an observation .

    Another thing I notice here as well there seem to be a fair few guests watching , which is good ,, mabe it will inspire some to join up and come and join in

    Don't do it!

    I said upthread that MtD's version of the tree had something I couldn't put my finger on, yours does too. I realised what it was, Wordsworth's The Thorn (OK there's no lichens and stuff and it's bigger that a 2 yr old kid but still):

    III “High on a mountain’s highest ridge,
    Where oft the stormy winter gale
    Cuts like a scythe, while through the clouds
    It sweeps from vale to vale;
    Not five yards from the mountain path,
    This Thorn you on your left espy;
    And to the left, three yards beyond,
    You see a little muddy pond
    Of water—never dry,
    Though but of compass small, and bare
    To thirsty suns and parching air.
    IV
    “And, close beside this aged Thorn,
    There is a fresh and lovely sight,
    A beauteous heap, a hill of moss,
    Just half a foot in height.
    All lovely colours there you see,
    All colours that were ever seen;
    And mossy network too is there,
    As if by hand of lady fair
    The work had woven been;
    And cups, the darlings of the eye,
    So deep is their vermilion dye.
    V
    “Ah me! what lovely tints are there
    Of olive green and scarlet bright,
    In spikes, in branches, and in stars,
    Green, red, and pearly white!
    This heap of earth o’ergrown with moss,
    Which close beside the Thorn you see,
    So fresh in all its beauteous dyes,
    Is like an infant’s grave in size,
    As like as like can be:
    But never, never any where,
    An infant’s grave was half so fair.

    A wretched thing forlorn!
    Wow, well that's settled it then.

    Thought I,d have another go at one of Alibaba,s coastal pics today in pastels

    Here we go 10 by 8 " this one if it turns out ok I have a frame for it ,, lets see how we go ,, first mark out very roughly what I ,m putting in and whats getting left out

    Starting at the back a simple sky with the horizon in the top 3rd of the paper a little simplified background ,, dont get too involved here otherwise it will come to the fore too much

    Now you cant see much change here sorry but I have been warming up the ground ready to sit everything on , indicating all the time from the foreground to the back

    Now the more observant will notice the red boat has appeared from no where so to speak as it wasnt in my original plan ,, it needed to go in there after I had done the rest of em ,,,,,,

    Anyway ,,,,what do you think ?? in the frame ? or in the bin with the rest of em ??

    If anyone wants to see it framed I will do it and stick it up ok ?

    Cheers happy campers

    Took a break from acrylics and played with my WC today... the result is my take on a photo by Marmite.

    Lonesome: Arches 140lb 14x10 in. W&N Um. Blue, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna and a touch of Burn Umber, and some permanent rose.

    Some hard edges that were unwanted. Dried very very rapidly in the heat and fans blowing lolol. Go figure. Not counting the drying time for wet in wet applications it took about 20 minutes of actual painting.

    Some nice colours going on there EG ,, a completely different take on the same pic .

    I know what you mean about the drying painting in Thaialnd ,, although I have to be honest and say at the moment I only have had very limited experience of this .

    It is something I am gonna have to learn to deal with a bit later on ,, another challenge for sure

    Just to make clear here is my ref for the 'Lonesome' effort. A photo used with permission from Marmite...

    Similar but different from his shot overlooking Burma.

    E G

    EDIT::: There was a major composition flaw in my version of this painting.... Can anyone else see it? It happens when your 'too busy' to analyze how your composition reads.

    I would say you have converted some of the foreground into mid ground ?
