    Supper with the neighbours.

So, last night I'm settling down to watch a movie and Joy says "Hey, let's go eat next door." Well, I'd had a snack and wasn't feeing hungry so I declined. She said, "no wollies. I'll go. Where's the camera?

"Good" thinks I, peace and quiet, a movie I haven't seen before and maybe some photos of people eating rice. I now wish I'd gone.

This little lad loves his pet snake.

Really likes it. He calls it Cyril. (OK I made that up)

    Really really likes it.

But sometimes relationships can go wrong

Children, plastic bags and snakes = trouble for someone

    In this case, Cyrill.

Cyrill, having departed this world of fun will be laid to rest

    He weighed 20 kilos

    All neat and tidy

    But hey, it's supper time.

    And on he goes

    Dad's cooking tonight

    Bit by bit

Dad gets bored, or hungry, chucks it all on

And that's your lot. At this point the camera was switched off and every one sat down to supper.

    Bon Appetit.

I think it's sick killing a beautiful animal like that.....

Then again I've never lived in the sticks and had my chickens eaten by snakes time and time again

Poor bloody thing. What a shame that they had to kill such a beautiful animal. They don't taste that great anyway. A deep fried chook would have been better tasting.

I need to be told that poor snake was seriously harrassing the neighbourhood before I can condone the sad fact it was killed just to be eaten

One of those has been going for our chickens' eggs, spotted it one evening in action but was too slow with the camera.

I'm very surprised they allow you to document their illegal ativities on-line with photographic evidence.

    Truely, I'm amazed.

If any venomous snakes are found on the property then they are taken care of very quickly. I hate to kill them but I have kids and better to be safe than sorry.

With regard to the constrictors I normally leave them because they clean up the vermin and the only thing that they represent a danger to is my daughters pug.

Not sure about any such protection laws in Thailand and probably I am breaking the laws as well and by killing the venomous snakes, bearing in mind I only kill the ones which I find directly around or inside the house.

I certainly don't go looking for them.

All pythons and boas including the Burmese python are considered threatened by the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species.

The Burmese python is on Thailands protected species list and as such is protected under Thai law, it is illegal to kill, sell, trade or hold in captivity a non captive bred Burmese Python.

Unfortunately mate, that's the way it is. I was in the market this afternoon and a lady was selling fresh venison. Apparently caught in Laos, over the hill, and smuggled in. She sold out pretty damn quick too.

Whether it was a rare species or a protected species I do not know but it's quite possible.

It's sad but these people live at a subsistence level and what that they can't grow or breed they'll hunt, kill and eat.

If that's what he said he's obviously a city bound berk. Here, if its edible it gets eaten.

Spot on. Same same here. They seem to cherish, what I'd consider inedible.

Would like to have seen the 'after' shots...snake looks like it had just eaten in one of them pics, they may have also got some bbq'd rat or boiled chook eggs as stuffing with it.

Yep, haven't seen them eat snake but heard about it...this afternoon was large rats at 10-20 and young ones at 30 bt for 5...fine to poo poo the savages, but as the man said if they were brought up in the fat West they'd probably be eating roast lamb just like us.

I'm afraid there are no "after shots". Joy took the photos and came back after they'd eaten. What you see is what you've got.

Interestingly, maybe, the cooking technique is exactly the same as the Aboriginal communities I lived in. Just chuck it on the fire.
