Thai food stalls

I had dinner lastnight at the food stalls on sukhumvit 38 - which is apparently one of the best places to experience street food in BKK. Fish glass noodle soup and dim-sums - bladdy great it was. Will try and gets some pics next time, but meanwhile here's a pic I took last year which will make our over-seas sea-food eaters green with envy.. 100baths for 10 king prawns folks!

The wifes sister has a prawn farm.Every time she visits, she comes back with about 15kgs of fresh prawns.

I am always trying to tell her that she should be more close to her sister and visit more often....

Yep, totally banned in my house, pick-up, bar table or anywhere near me. If the g/f wants to eat some, she gets it, eats it a long way from me and must clean her teeth and gargle with Listerine before I'll go near her again.

... something from the shop named "Rotiboy". Someone said it's cookie or something like that ...

We have Roti stalls in markets in Phuket. I'll take a picture next time I see one. You can get them with banana, sugar, condensed milk, raisins, chocolate, etc. 10 baht for plain, 15 baht for others. Very sweet, very fattening. Delicious!

You've gotta try sushi, icey. It's taste bud heaven.

I hate it too, which makes it quite sad as I live in Phuket. I like the big fish, but hate anything that is staring back at me from the plate.

As for sushi, my g/f is very sick at the moment with food poisoning because she ate three of those little 15 baht sushi packs from Big C. F*cking Big C! I've seen men in the meat section there drop knives on the floor, pick them up and continue slicing the meat without even wiping the knife, let alone washing it or making any attempt at pretending to know anything about hygiene.

Just found this thread today ....silly me. It's a lovely reminder of LOS. I loved paying only 30 -40 bahts for my snacks after coming off the beach at Soi Post Office. There are a few stalls there. My regular "chef" got to know what I liked.....different meats fried up and a complete mixture of almost everything else added in! Then a fried egg or two on top (well you have to dont you?) That served up in a plastic tray and some boiled rice in a bag made a lovely meal at about 6pm each day. When I'm back in a few weeks time I'll be sure to visit. It is always packed with locals from the offices (good sign) and I've never had any health problems from it. My advice....find one that suits you, doesnt make you sick and stick with it!

Saw this one last night in a drunken haze, yep, kebabs have got to Jomtien at long last, shame I was stuffed from the Italian food, think I might go and hunt him down this evening, got to be easier than going all the way to South Pattaya to the main kebab man

Well I went to the 7/11 on Soi Thepprasit today for a change to buy some cigarettes, outside seems to be a communal Thai style food center, I assume 7/11 charges these people for setting up business outside their places, they really should think about supplying them with dustbins aswell, still it's only Thailand and the floor is just as conveniant I suppose.

This food stall has a BBQ for the squid AND a deep fat fryer for the hotdogs and other stuff, 5 to 10baht a stick aint too bad.

Got to admit I have no idea what this guy is selling but he does have a nice mobile food stall.

These are sauces for khanom jeen. On the left is nam yaa gati and on the right in nam yaa paa. Gotta be very careful with this stuff. Although very tasy it does have some nasty side effects. At best it will make you fart like a brewery horse and at worst it will have you taking up residence in the loo for several hours.

Sorry DD, I've gotta go with Pooly on this one. Those things in the middle are definitely naem. The khao nieo ping you were thinking of are much smaller and flatter (easier to cook), although I would really like a couple right now, straight off the grill with lots of salt !!!

This is an unusual one, obviously influenced by all the tourists in Pattaya, got hot dogs, donuts, that Thai luncheon meat stuff, cucumbers and noodle stuff.

This guy has got the biggest squids I have seen for sale on a BBQ stall in Pattaya, should have asked him how much I suppose.
Notice the nice high end stainless steel trays, yep things are moving upmarket down here in Pattaya.

I seem to be on a roll this week with Thai fried insect stalls, anyway this video I took down Soi Yodsak this evening and features a young lady telling us how delicious fried insects really are, the stuff on the left is dried fish, no idea what that was doing amongst his insects.

Again in South Pattaya a sweet corn stall, notice the top is all stainless, things are really going upmarket in Pattaya these days.

A friend of mine was ill after eating those sweet corn. You would think that by being steamed or boiled that there would be no germs etc: so we wonder what made him ill. Is there any sort of additive that would make you ill?

No idea, but you know he aint gonna sell all those in one day, so that night they are gonna be stored somewhere amongst the rats and that, then tomorrow reheated again etc etc etc.
