    Now this one looks good

A decent helping of meat in proportion to rice, most Thai restauarnts assume that you want 99% rice and miniscule helping of the good stuff. Got news for them, us farangs like our meat as much as any Thai girl likes farang meat.
I don't mind paying for extra dead chicken or pig but gotta have my helping of meat.

    Pattaya Cheap Thai Restaurants

Again on Soi Theprasit this place is next door to the elephant kraal and shooting range, so it's a bit noisy, not sure how much the elephants like the sound of guns going off but doubt if any thought was given to that.

Anyway as you can see in this picture it is quite a nice sized open air type of restaurant.

Concrete and wooden tables and chairs.

My spicey pork with basil and rice, the meat was spread very thinly to make it look like a lot, it wasn't Probably to be considered a more expensive type of place at 25baht a dish as the amount was so little.

    The kitchen.

I never really liked these little stainless cups you get with ice for your water.

    Thai pork restaurant in Pattaya

Again on Soi Theprasit, this place is actually quite nice, proper plastic table cloths and not your normal floor lino on the tables, nicely painted walls, nice tiles on the floor, no cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, I can only assume she is married to a farang, ok the front doesn't look to special but would you bother doing out the front of an open fronted shophouse on a main road like this.

Nice wooden tables and chairs, nice finger print free walls.

Hmmmm, for 30baht it was ok, the green stuff I don't eat anyway and I only sometimes eat the yellow bit from eggs, the pork and rice was bland, I mean really bland, luckily it came with a bowl of that sweet chilli sauce so that sorted that little problem out.

    Thanks for this DD.
These are are the places to eat if you want no nonsense value for money grub. I eat locally at a place that has at least 10 big bowls like in the pic above with different curries and similar. She also has lots of dried fish, salted fish and those bamboo whatever dishes, gaeng om. The husband stands outside and grills pork satay stix at 2.5 baht each served with peanut sauce and a chilli cucumber onion relish.
He told me he does 1000 stix per day.
The place hasn't changed in years.

Fancy restaurants are fine, but for a fussy fukker like me who can't drink beer out of a thimble sized glass or straight from the bottle, they are more trouble than its worth.

I only eat a small amount during the day so usually just make myself a snack or 2, lately I can't be bothered so I have been trying out all the local Thai restaurants around my area, hell it would cost more in food if I just made a sandwich or a burger and then I got the hassle of making it and then the cleaning up.

    Pattaya Chicken and Rice Restaurant

Well this is the last time I eat on Soi Thepprasit, from now on I shall try to travel into Pattaya City itself and try out the local Thai restaurants.

This chicken and rice shop house is just opposite KR Karting, which even as i type is slowly being knocked down and turned into another housing estate, yep the Pattaya building boom continues.

Not too bad is it, even got a couple of plants to make it look nice.

They haven't spent a lot on furniture.

Bowl of onion soup and a plate of chicken and rice all for 25baht, she left the skin on the chicken though The sauce was really nice though so that made up for her mistake.

    Jomtien Thai pork Restaurant

Well I lied, I didn't bother going into Pattaya as the traffic is bloody awful, took me 30 minutes last night to get to South Pattaya, this is normally a 5 minute journey

This restauarant is on Soi Theprasit as per usual, on the corner of Soi 17 and right next to the elephant kraal, this is the new Soi 17 and not the old Soi 17 which is now Soi 8, all done just to confuse residents, locals and tourists I believe.

    The cooking area.

    Nice wooden furniture.

My pork and rice, only 25baht but for some reason didn't come with the onion soup.

Again never bothered driving into Pattaya, oneday I will though to sample the delights of the low end Thai restaurants, and Pattaya has plenty of those

This place is right at the end of Soi Theprasit and Sukhumvit Road, there are like 4 Thai restaurants all together, although it maybe just one owner, so time for some more noodle soup

    Plastic chairs and crappy tables.

The kitchen area, or should this be called the food display?

My noodle soup, pretty damn good for 25baht.

I seem to be eating out more and more on Soi Theprasit, anyway this place is next to the 7/11 on the corner of Soi 8 which used to be called Soi 17, the one where the Harley Bar is that is now called the Eden Bar, gets a bit confusing don't it.

As you can see this place is quite nice, nice floor and that, when we get heavy rains here this place is one of the first to flood.

All nice stainless counters which cost a fortune, notice the raised bit on the floor, this is their latest effort to stop the flood waters from getting into the restaurant.

Well we may wonder how they can afford these nice floors, all that stainless for the cooking and food displays, it's quite simple actually, they charge 30baht for a very mediocre bowl of noodle soup

More noodle soup yet again on Soi Theprasit, I really got to travel further afield for my noodle soups.
This restaurant is down the Jomtien Beach Road end of the Soi, pretty crappy place really.

Tables and chairs are ok and they got a karaoke machine if your into that.

Loads of meat, loads of fat aswell, pretty bland and yucky, reckon I got stitched up as it was 30baht

    Some Pattaya Restaurants revisited

Same place as post 36, yep the restaurant opposite the Outlet Mall, probably best to stick to their noodle soups as the fried pork with basil leaf at 25baht leaves a bit to be desired.

Pattaya, venturing into Soi Kho Pai

Yes today I managed to eat away from Soi Theprasit and went to a shack on Soi Kho Pai, the one in Pattaya that is in the news most weeks, for mundane stuff like gang shootings and murders and drugs.

Anyway didn't get to see anything exciting so had a pad kappow guy, chicken with basil leaf.

As you can see it is mainly an Issarn restaurant, barbequed catfish and chicken on a stick

The old bok bok is in this picture somewhere to do the somtam bum squirt salad.

25baht for this, nice plate and nice presentation, can't be bad

Jomtien - Soi Watboon Thai Noodle Restaurant

Next is a visit to Soi Watboon in Jomtien, the Soi where the Blind Beggar or the now renamed Winchester Gun Club is.

This noodle restaurant does both clear soup and the nice flavoured one.

Plastic Pepsi table cloths, better than floor lino anyway.

My pork noodle soup, a bit sweet so had to chuck some vinegar and chilli in it, also took out a load of the basil leaves, but at 20baht it was a bargain.

Take a visit up to Soi Kao Talo if you get the chance DD, there are about three good places to eat, one noodle place next to the Diamond factory on the left and past that on the right two fried rice and / or whatever etc places that close early-ish.

Well it was back to Soi Thepprasit for my favourite noodle soup, yep, the one next to the car wash, I have to admit it was a bit of a shock to see them rise their prices to 30baht for noodle soup, but, hell, they may have just been stitching me up as I am a dumb farang in their eyes, got to admit though I did get more more meat and garlic.

    They also do boiled pig.

    Cordial drinks.

The restaurant is quite nice and it is big.

At 20baht it is the best down Soi Theprasit, paying 30baht I think is still a good deal but a big increase.

    North Pattaya noodle soup restaurant

Next stop is North Pattaya, I was on my way to the door shop in Naklua and it started raining, yes, I was on the bike, I wasn't hungry but decided it was time to add to this thread, wish I had just rode in the rain

The restaurant is quite nice and clean by Thai noodle shop standards, but the noodles, BLAND, jees, I just filled it up with chilli powder to give it some flavour, it was like clear watery soup with noodles in with all the flavour taken out of it, I assume they cooked the pork elsewhere as it really didn't have any flavour at all till the chile hit it.

43 baht for this and coke, I was robbed

Wow that first place doesn't at all look like a low end restaurant with the fancy wooden tables and well manacured garden. I ate at a low end place in the Ramkamhaeng neighborhood way off the tourist track. Pretty similar to what you get in the tourist area for a lot less price. Only problem is Thai's eat a lot of organ meat that I don't find too palatable, you might end up with some thrown in at the cheaper restaurants. Organ meat also makes the girls breath stink.

    Thai Pork Noodle Soup

Back onto the Thai noodle soups down Soi Theprasit, the amount of meat with the soup is getting smaller and smaller, this one was 36baht with a bottle of pepsi, 25baht for the noodle soup? My favourite noodle soup shop was closed today so made do with this one, not very good really
