How many ladys do you have looking after that shit a lot more than on land. Out there you are top heavy with supervisor as here we have lots of niggers and very few senior people 1 x RM/NTP/Snr Mech/Snr Elec/Snr Cook :) how many do you have ?Quote:

Rigger offshore Drilling Operations are not for everyone, sometimes the weather conditions can be atrocious, there is nothing worse than working on a drill ship in bad weather and being sea sick at the same time. It takes a special breed you can either do it or you can,t.
I ams sure you are very happy working on Land Rigs, the best place to work is where you are happy and the rewards(i.e.money) at the end of the month is enough to keep you happy. My vocation is offshore I would not like to be the Superintendent in a refinery onshore, too many restrictions for me, and I also like my rotation. As I say its horses for courses:)
I counted 21 fish the other day, was choppy weather as well. I like offshore, the wind in the hair, the constant drills and the kipper shack where all good things come to an end over a smoke.
ps. All work is shite, the best rig is looking out the chopper window at one on departure onshore!

The things I think would attract me to the O+G industry are the challenge, the opportunity to travel, the time off (one 3 week holiday per year at the minute :( ), and of course the money.
Of course its quite possible that there is no requirement for someone with my skillset (I can but hope) so I'm hoping one of you guys will be able to tell me one way or the other.

Getting run off is never easy, never had the showdown and exile deal yet, don't want to either. But sometimes it happens and there's not much you can do about it. Don't be put off.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm in the UK (Belfast, Northern Ireland to be precise). I'm not sure that there would be any jobs requiring my skillset though? I'd be happy to hear any opinions on this.

Electronics and software experience would likely be enough to get you an Electronic Technician's job somewhere. If you were any good you'd have a good chance of promotion within a year. Like i said before, the industry doesn't have enough experienced people so are hiring from outside the oilfield.
And without us engineering and construction guys building the refineries and P&C plants there would no where for the oil to go.Quote:
