    Always something new...

So, like many, if not most, foreigners in Thailand, my Visa and Work permit expire in a few days. This morning trogged off to my local immigration office - only to be told that the internet was down (and had been since yesterday) and so no go. Come back Monday and we will see. No, I could not go the the Bangkok office, come back Monday (the day my visa expires).

They then suggested that I may as well go and put my work permit extension request in. Now, it has been my understanding (for some 24 years) that the visa and work permit were inextricably linked, and there was no way the work permit office would take the extension request. I dutifully trudged over, and you could have knock me over with a feather when the work permit office said - no problem. And indeed my application was lodged.

The longer I stay here, the less I actually understand.

(I will avoid an extensive rant about how fucked up it is that immigration grind to a halt because their "internet went down". Sigh.)

Good luck Oggy, green owed big brother wont let me at present

Somehow unknown to me , returning from Penang around 2004, I had 2 visas in my passport at one time ,immigration officer here said not possible until I showed them their own stamps from different offices.
As for dealing swith the labour Office never painful just so slow always used to take a thick book pre internet when at least staff were not playing with phones, a golden era really.

I think you are lucky to get it donesoon , the excuse from next week staff canoe unable to paddle to work etc.

Best regards I've been up the creek so long I've gawn "native' of course as we all have another myriad of lives to sort things out , the present imboglio is but like Pattata piles......small potatoes.

Suggest you kick back knock off early treat yourself to some fine wining and dining and thank your lucky stars you don't have to wear one of those stiff Immi uniforms for 30 years to get a pension

The internet never goes down, you numpty. Your connection, maybe, but not the internet entirely. The internet is a connection of independent networks and can never be taken down entirely. Stick to being a fake dentist because you have no idea how the interwebs works. Try this to learn how the internet works...

    Press Windows key + R to open the Run window. Enter cmd and press enter to open a command prompt. Enter the following command;

    tracert teakdoor.com

You will see all the route hops it takes from your home or wireless network to access TD.

You children have a lot to learn.

of course the internet could go down. open your eyes you booze addled goon.

a massive worldwide cyberattack, a global nuclear war or an overwhelming solar flare are just 3 events that could bring it about, and i'm sure that at this very minute there are many techies in government labs and nerds in filthy litter strewn basements like yours figuring out ways to wreak havok by bringing down the internet.

My experience re this issue has it has never remained constant. The last few years I need to go to the labor office first and get my new stamp there and then go to the immigration office for my new permission to stay stamp. In fact I did just that last week.
However for a similar time frame before that the same authorities round here insisted that I visit the immigration office first before going to the labor department.
I can not recall which way round it was when I lived in other provinces.
