    90 day reporting

So, I went to the immigration office yesterday to do my due date 90 day reporting. We had checked the office was open (which is surprising as government officers are supposed to be 100% WFH). Anyway, my secretary prepared my form as usual, I signed it and rucked up at the office.

This time the officer handed me back the form, and said "No need". She then entered my passport number in a computer, and printed off a slip, stamped it and stapled it in my passport. In the past, nothing at the desk would be computer entered (as I remember), they would stamp the form I provided, tear off the bottom and staple that in my passport.

The immigration officer also wrote the day that my visa needs extending (end september), AND the date of my next 90 report - mid October. Last year also I had the farce of extending my visa and rucking up two weeks later to do the 90 day reporting.

So, the past "logic" was we were reporting our address - that is now out the window as they do not now take that information. And it is clear that 90 day reporting is not linked to anything- you report every 90 days, even if you go in two weeks before to extend the visa. It seems that even exiting the country and returning does NOT restart the clock on the 90 days.

The changes now really do make it seem that they are simply f*cking with us.

I suppose at some time I could check out on line reporting, but frankly the office is not that far, and work provides me a car and driver to go do the reporting. I am quite happy as I had to work fairly hard for my work place to accept some shared responsibility for this.

Must have done a dozen or more 90 day reports in person and have never once prepared any forms, just handed my Passport over. So has everyone else at the 90 day counter of Jomtiem Immigration. I know this might vary from Immigration office to Immigration office (like everything else) but it seems odd..

It's the way to go. Ok, because I've used it so many times before auto-fill kicks in as I start to type the required data in but if I had to beat a stopwatch doing it I'd back myself to be able to submit one in under 3 minutes.

That's also what I've done for many years in Samui, seems civilization has now arrived to nidhoggs immigration office.

Obviously not fully civilized, 90 days reporting should be reset when entering Thailand. In Samui it is also reset when you do your yearly extension.

^ and ^^. It is this lack of standardization amongst offices that is the single biggest bugbear in dealing with immigration in Thailand.

What makes you think that, Nid?

That is what I was told by an immigration officer. Makes no sense to me though.

I also did my 90 day report yesterday. It's quite some years since form filling has been required in Phuket, and now around 3 years since they introduced the 'drive through' facility where you roll up at a window, it opens, hand over the passport, and around a minute later you get it back with a new slip inside. Normally there's a queue of 2 or 3 cars, but yesterday nothing. The complex was busy with people though, and from the experience of my last extension in April, in the main they will have been Covid extension seekers.

I always thought it was the sentence that ends with “at the discretion of the IO”.

Normally need 4 or 5 pages at the Samut Prakan office. Form giving permission to someone else to do it for me plus photocopies of visa etc.

I used to let work do it but they took a shortcut and reported me as living in BKK which caused a lot of shit.
I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

Yes, agreed. It can also vary within offices.

7 or 8 years ago I arrived at the immigration office to renew my 1 year extension . A colleague from work was just finishing up.
We had been provided with the same package of information except for our names.
He told me how it had gone and which papers & forms had been required as each year there had appeared to be a new request
A couple of hours later when my time came I was served by the same IO.
I handed her the package of papers confident that everything would go smoothly.
Nope, I was missing papers and needed additional copies of this and that.
I was about to say that a couple of hours ago she had accepted exactly what I had given her.
I thought better of it and went to get the copies.

Now we call the IO the day before we show up at the office to make sure we have everything before setting off
    I gave her the package

The offices are being linked up. For better or ....

    This week's 9am visit was a 2-minute affair.

The office was empty. Said hello, I informed the officer what I was there for, "90 day report", handed over my passport, sat down, took out my phone, and before I could find a site to browse my name was called.

Went for breakfast. Bought some fresh crabs for us all for the evening meal.
A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
