Immigration Checking Apartments for Foriegners on Overstay

A couple of weeks ago, the FIN (Filipino Intelligence Network) reported that immigration was visiting apartment buildings to check any foreigners there visa status.

One of my friends was just caught up in it.

His passport was at the company's office to get the paperwork done for his WP, so he didn't have his passport on him when immi came a knockin' on his door.

He's now at Suan Plu immigration waiting for the company to bring his passport to show he's on a valid visa as I post this.

One thing to keep in your wallet is a photo copy of your passport and visa.

My tenant's bf in Chiang Mai got caught up in something like this around a year ago, when they were in the area checking people's visas.

Another thing to keep in your wallet is a nice crisp 1000 baht note, Thailand's unofficial most acceptable travel document.

Bullshit, try that and you are very likely to be arrested on the spot.

Attempting bribery is corruption and is only done by the corrupt.

Not what your post was about you were advocating for someone to attempt to bribe authority.

After much pondering and discussion today, we've come to the conclusions the person was targeted.

There are two foreign teachers living in the apartment complex.

Immigration showed up with a picture of one of them to check their documentation. The teacher in question called the teacher that lives in the same complex who came to his apt and immigration wasn't interested in that teacher's paperwork.

    After deliberation.....

Immigration could only have gotten a picture of this person from their database. Remember, they take a picture of you when you're given a visa. This teacher is on a valid Non-B and they must have known the teacher had a valid visa from their own database.

Secondly, immigration could have checked their own database before bringing her to Suan Plu. However, the teacher was formally booked (taken out in cuffs from his condo, pictures taken holding the his arrest number and fingerprinted) and a report was filed. It cost the agency 5k to secure the release. We're getting the arrest report translated.

That's just fucked up. I wonder who was pissed off....
