    Yellow Book-what's it for?

I recently read a thread related to a topic on Expat registration cards being reviewed? Part of that discussion was about what a Yellow book was or was not. Unfortunately, I cannot locate this site again after one day. Help!

    1. What is a yellow book?
    2. What are the requirements? Eligibility?
    3. What Thai offices do you go to for this book?
    4. Is it worthwhile to do?
    5. Does it cost anything?
    6. Is there a time requirement? Years in Thailand? Married to a Thai # of years?
    7. If you have a Retirement O visa, what if anything does a Yellow Book enhance?

Appreciate any information on this subject. Please elaborate and add sites I can visit for further information in English.

Well, if you want a contract of any kind in your name only, it's worth it.

Almost forgot - can't get the "Gold Card" w/out it. For those retired and not working, being able to use the Government Hospitals is a plus too.

Check those two links I just posted, Itnt.

Basically, the Yellow Book is good for taking out contracts in your name and being able to utilize the Thai Government Health Services.

If anyone knows of further advantages, please let us know.

    As of when?

I received mine ~ a year ago and have used it for a couple of out-patient services. Had a bad cold w/fever and they were most helpful.

I've utilized the two threads offered by Boon Mee and hope to get this concept cleared up in my mind and how the process of application works.

    Thanks folks.

Ok, which one of you two is right?

Is the yellow book a book like the blue book or just the hospital/medical 30 baht insurance card?

Well, we could both be right because I was told 'they' had stopped issuing the Gold Card too but when I boogied on over to my local government hospital with my brand spankng new Yellow Book, they issued me my "Gold Card" which is in reality a laminated piece of paper stating the individual listed is granted all rights/privileges of the Thai Health System.

    K. Pragmatic might have been told by his local Amphur that he could not obtain the Gold Card but as we know, misinformation runs rampant here in LOS.

    K. Itnt - the Yellow Book is a separate document from the Gold Card.

O.K. thanks. I don't plan on buying any more property or taking out any loans so I probably won't really need the Yellow Book, but if its a easy access to the Gold Card medical then I may go ahead and do it too. with the rumbling about forced medical coverage by the new government, it may pay to get the medical card in the long run.

I got my yellow book in Pattaya and mainly use it for proof of address. It was issued by the land office. You need to have your passport information page translated to Thai and as I remember 3 counter signatures to confirm you are who you say you are. It's also good for opening bank accounts.

I have had the 'Gold Card' for just under 2 years. Farangs who tried to get one within the last year or so were denied.
Even though they've stopped issueing the card I still get free treatment and medicines.

How recent was that? Three signatures by whom, random? No need for yellow book to obtain bank accounts. Passport only and cash.

I got my yellow book two weeks ago, i had to go to immigration and get asigned letter that I was living at my adress on a marriage visa and a check to see that I was not blacklisted, I took that to the Amphur office and had the village chief and my SIL come with me and they verified that I lived at the adress, and all was good, they did ask for a translation of my passport but the bossman at the Amphur office could read english and he OK'd it.
I had to go to Udon today and had a couple of hours to kill so I took my brand new yellow book to the hospital and applied for a gold card , I thought the worst they could do was say no ferk off, they did say no but gave an explanation . Apparently there are too many Farangs with gold cards and as all Farangs are rich they have decided to stop issuing them and also are going to start Phasing out the ones that are already issued. Apparently withASEAN kicking in there is some sort of reciprocal arrangement organised and it will be too much to treat Farangs as well seeing as we are "all so rich". But the guy did say that with a yellow book we can get 50% discount on public hospital bills, hope that is useful.

That's interesting news, Ozcol. W/regard to the 'Gold Card' I'm hoping it depends on where you live whether or not they continue to accept it. We'll see next time I need to turn up at my local Government Hospital. There are like zero Farangs in my area other than myself.

My missus asked the question today, and they have indeed stop issuing farangs with Thai medical cards but will honour those already issued.

For you to be living in the house (generally with a Thai wife/family that they or you own)

    3. What Thai offices do you go to for this book?

    Local Amphur office.

    4. Is it worthwhile to do?

Perhaps. Some offices are very easy, some are very difficult.

    5. Does it cost anything?

No, it should be free. Sometimes is, sometimes isn't. Mainly depending where you live in Thailand.

Usually married and living with your Thai wife for at least a year. You will need two Thai witnesses.

As Proof of Address, so you won't need a Cert. of REsidence from your Embassy or immigration office.
