I don't think you are supposed to have two legal identities...it looks very dodgy and may raise more questions than it answers..
If she legally took your name in the UK she should also have changed it in thailand.
At least with the Thai and United States dual citizenship (when the Thai spouse marries an American and later becomes an American citizen), there are no issues.

As it relates to the OP situation though, the fact that the two passports have different names for the same person may be an issue. Simple solution would be to have a "name change" made to agree with what the UK passport reads and then have the Thai passport amended with a "name change" page. Avoids any issues in the future.

There's no overstay for kids in Thailand.
It's only 1000 baht for a Thai passport, one short 30 min visit to Central Bang Na mall and you go back to pick the passport up the same week
Cool, so he will be ok with a UK passport (can't be arsed to get a Thai one yet).

We have a stop over in Helsinki (I know!) on the way yo the UK. I dont reckon it'll be an issue but will my wife need a visa for Finland for the transfer?
How long is the stopover? Helsinki is a nice town and there are a few sights, but it kind of depends on the time of year. If you are just changing planes, no need.

Probably because she entered on the Thai passport and consequently is here as a Thai and not a UK citizen and does not have to go through all the hoops with immigration and such.

My spouse has been doing it this way legally for years. Never been a problem.

Thanks for that Danny, I'm reasonably happy that it'll be OK, but nice to hear that someone else has done it.

The fact is the BP is checked entering the immigration area and when entering the boarding gate. At both those points she will have her UK passport in her hand.

At immigration I don't think they even look at it, but I've told her to hand the passport over with the BP in it, don't try to hide anything.

By the way for people who say use the UK passport, I believe it is illegal for a passport holder of a country to enter that country using another passport. So she can only ever use her Thai passport in Thailand.

Yeah, I read that Helsinki is a nice town, and we do have 4 hours to spare. However, I heard that it only really works out if you are transferring from Helsinki to a Domestic Finnish flight, otherwise it won't be so handy. Also, I suspect the wife would have major issues if she left the airport, but that could have its up sides...

    she wouldn't.....

But it is certainly illegal for a valid UK passport holder to enter the UK on another passport.

    I checked.
