    Name change

I have a question. I have a 12 yo stepdaughter who has not seen her biological father since she was 3 months old, I have now been her father for 3 years and she would like to change her surname to be the same as her mums.
We went to the local office and they said I would have to adopt her, so we went to BKK and got sent to several different departments and finally gave up, but now she is starting high school and would like to start with my name, wondering if anyone has had the same situation. thanks for your answers in advance.
Mods if this is in the wrong section ,please move.

Hopefully you will not need the sperm donors consent, but I believe from reading some blog (cannot remember where) that you do.

As racist as some of the Thai are, are you sure a farang surname won't become a liability to her?

Hopefully not BobR but is her decision to make ,at the moment and for the last 2 years ,her wish is to become a Police woman ! I know what a lot of you will think , but my position is that I will try to help her as much as I can , like I said every decision is hers.

Don't be so defensive, I'm not thinking anything bad. Wish you and her the best.

Oz, I think just going to the government offices that control the I.D. cards would be sufficient for a certified name change at the request of the card holder?

Thai's according to rumor are allowed to make name changes three times in the course of their lifetimes. Many change names simply as a "good luck charm."

Cost about 50 baht to do. Legal adoption not a requirement, but sounds like a Thai official scam.

To change the kid's name to the mother's maiden name is simple and done with only an hour or so of mucking about.

To change the kid's name into the mother's married name (when the husband is one of those nasty foreigners), it requires adoption first.
