Thread: Can anyone recommend a Bangkok lawyer for writing a will

The company, Sun Belt Asia bangs out wills for a pretty reasonable price for foreigners here in Thailand. It's provided in Thai and English and spells out who gets what.

Funny enough (well not really all that funny) a close Irish friend of mine died recently. His Thai wife, thinking that it'd be nothing to show up at the bank and have his 7 million baht transferred from the joint account into her private account was knocked back had the account frozen until the will cleared probate. All in all it took about 6 months. She did get all the money as I was there when she picked up the bank draft and deposited it into her own account.

I had told her (when it looked like my friend was fixin' to die) to just start transferring the money into her own account (seeing as she ran all his finances at the end). She was sure that just showing up at the bank with the death certificate and the marriage documents would have the bank hand over the cash.. Sadly, for her, that was not the case. Like I said, she got the money in the end, so good on her, and good on my departed Irish friend for takin' care of her too.

Personally, I'm not the least bit optimistic she'll have ANY dosh left in 6 months.. Her extended family closed in like "buzzards on a shit wagon" as soon as she got the cash. Still, it was what my Irish friend wanted, and if she pisses the money away who's to blame her, after all it's her money...

Face it, you're gonna be dead, so if you want the money to go to someone, why not have it spelled out, IN Thai and Engrish so there's no mistakes. This also stops someone from trying to "take their cut" for "helping a grieving spouse". Believe me all too many "friends" jump in on things like this to "help out".

I mean, why step over a dollar to pick up a dime in a situation like this??
