    90 day rule.

I arrived back in Thailand last night, after more than 20 years commuting 28\28 from here, they would only allow me in for 17 days.
They spent "time" going through passport counting the days I have been in the country, (I had some extra off days here), pointing to the new sign on all the counters, max 90 days out of every 180 - they gave me 17 days!
I beleive my only option is to leave the country and get a visa at an embassy, are there any other options?
    Cheers

I've been doing a similar thing but since October I've chucked in a couple of tourist visas from the embassy in Malaysia.

Does their count mean that you've spent 73 days already out of a 180 day period ? I'm not sure I follow this system.

Got to goto a differant country and get some sort of visa, even a tourist visa will do.

I think it speaks volumes to the goodness of the members of this board that no one has yet mentioned or advised...

TD obviously has a better class of poster than some 'other' sites in the neighborhood.

If you overstay you may have a problem getting a tourist visa from an embassy.

The last thing I wont to do is "travel" seems like I have no choice, I guess Singapore is the easiest option?
Never followed all the visa threads as never thought would have problem!

If your married to a Thai National you can get a 1 year extention without leaving the country (I'm not sure on the financial requirments now though, I think you have to show 40,000 a month income)

Not married! been doing numerous interviews over the years but have yet to meet anyone that fullfills all the requirements for the position. Financial side not a problem.

Perhaps you may want to consider setting up a 2nd home in a neighbouring country - eg. Malaysia, Singapore, for the exclusion periods & then sidle into Thailand in accordance with their new rules.

I have 2 houses here and thought I was settled!
After this 180 day period is over will most likely not have this problem again ?
    Cheers

It is always the last 180 days before the moment you enter - it's never 'over'.

The Thai Embassy in London web site indicate there is another possibility.

For tourists with the 30 day Visa exemption:-

    Quote:
"Otherwise, the passport holders can also apply for a tourist visa at the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok. This will allow the visa applicants to stay in Thailand not exceeding 60 days and the duration of stay can be extended in total up to 90 days for each entry."

Don't think this covers the "new" 90 day rule.

As I understand it, the "90 day rule" only applies to visitors entering Thailand under the Visa Exemption rule (30 days allowed) which is the stamp you get in your passport when you arrive at the airport. It does not apply to tourists who have obtained a tourist visa prior to travel (60 days).

The UK Thai Embassy indicate tourists entering Thailand under the visa exemption rule can obtain a 60 day tourist visa in Bangkok.

Rather than mess around in Bangkok, I believe a trip out will be easier, either Singapore or if any body knows a better place, (Vietnam?) please say, just spent a month in Singapore, not in a great rush to go back!

Probably the best two threads I’ve read on Vietnam of late (certainly enough to want to make be go):

    https://teakdoor.com/travellers-tales/10056-wayne-kerrs-isaan-sojourn.html

    https://teakdoor.com/travellers-tales/10896-hanoi-live-report.html

Without doubt the best thread I have read on Cambodia and probably the thread that started such great follow-ons. Little do we realize how much we owe this guy in our Travelers section

    Further to this!
I have just got new Passport, it went in for visa transfer yesterday, they transfered the visa and took two further pages to put in a history of time in Thailand over the last six months!
Getting a new PP doesn't allow you to start all over again!
    Cheers

In April a friend that visits frequently, mostly 4-6 weeks here and about the same in UK, was told he couldn't enter but given one day to sort it out. Then he was sent (by the immigration officer) to an office near the airport where they offered to extend the day to a week for something like 15k, and during that week onto a full 30 days for another 15k.

He extended for a week simply for time to get his head around the nonsense, and then left.

Now he has a non-O, which I've been pestering him to get for a couple of years.

If you are an Aust or NZ citizen there is a 3 year business visa easily available.

What happens if you get your passport nicked? Do they put your entire record in it then?

I suppose if you have a proper visa they won't need two pages to show 6 months worth of visits.

I have a retirement visa! PP was too full to get a work visa for another country!
