Actually, there is now a flashing red light on the top - the installers had to order it from Bangkok...

The nearby cellular mast (20 metres height) has no red light

The airport antennas are located directly opposite my previous hotel - you could almost listen to the pilots by turning on the shower taps. But at this new location, I'm about 2 kms from the airport antennas.

In any case, the airport uses VHF only and my antenna is short wave, zilch-all chance of causing interference - famous last words

    a fetal mistake
That would be an interesting type of mistake to make!

My wife is well-used to my huge erections (antenna erections, that is). She often lends a hand when I have problems getting them up

What is amateur radio? It's definitely Alan Partridge!!

Basically, it's an old man's hobby. When you're getting on in years and your false teeth no longer fit properly - and you haven't seen your dick for yonks cos of your beer gut - and your wife gets more sense talking with the milkman - then it's time to dig out your morse code key and start dah-dit-dit-dahing with similar, sad individuals across the globe.

Luckily, there seem to be many thousands of similar, sad geezers whose only happiness is found in chatting with like-minded chaps in outer Patagonia and describing the intricities of their amateur radio transmitter and yagi antenna.

For my part, I often find it difficult to operate all my equipment alone, and so I call upon the assistance of my wife who sports a firm and steady grasp, and who is always willing to pound my key or tweak my tetrodes.

Nice erection Simon. Poor choice of antenna I would say though. Have you considered a multi band 2 element quad? Works a treat at low elevations like that and you can have full wave antennas on many bands.

Cheers from VK2. Will be listening for you.

    Really sad eh?

Well, these hex beams get very good reviews ... lightweight etc. in any case, purchase of the antenna is relegated to the end of the line since I need to pay to complete the construction of the buildings first - I'll probably have a mast and no antennas for yonks

Jeez - that Dilbert video is so true Why are us engineers so socially inept? I tried to explain the concept of shortwave propagation to the bar girl next to me tonight, but all she could say was 'when we go boom-boom? - you not like other farang - you straaaange'

True indeed! I have the same problem. Have you ever heard the joke: "What does an engineer use for birth control? "-----------Answer: "His personality."

Try the concept of AC/DC. That will be a challenge.
