As with any building job, turn up morning, noon & night, kick down the shoddy work until they get the message. Better to invite the lads round, sit there having a beer or three, enjoy watching somebugger else work!

Thai workers are not worse than any workers in any country but at least you can reason with them. I had a house in europe redesigned and how stupid can these guys be. They bloody plastered all mains.. In europe they wont do the job and make you the bad guy. Camerons a bit allright
Agreed, there is the advantage that you can explain to them why you want it done a certain way? All of a sudden the light of realisation comes across their eyes. Then, done as you want it...nearly! Near enough at any rate!!
Yes, that is true. Thais are not stupid. Many lack education (which would fill another million pages on New Mandala - read it man) and why are they kept uneducated... to the benefit of factory owners, not to mention the usual parties but the fucking expat , expecting cheap service from bar girls.and laundry workers. doctors and hairdressers.
PP barangs are cheap charlies... unfortunately. I do dodge all western people in PP. Arent they a weird lot. One time in sihanoukville I did howerer speak with this guy on hotel lobby (i didnt go to that hotel) well you should not target barangs in marketing because they have no money they are losers. What about learning the language and offering the superior knowledge to real cambodian businesses around there?
I'll give them their due, they pick adaptations/new techniques up quickly enough. You ARE lucky on occasion to have the one bright spark who can think outside the box though? Job's foked when there isn't. That's the main trouble, independent thought discouraged for all those reasons you mentioned.
off-topic - Without upsetting any painters here, surely a half-decent (didn't say professional!) job can't be that tricky to master? Hardly requires masses of problem solving by minute? KISS principle says most've seen their mate do it, FOK, that looks easy?!
Ah, so the guru offering his pearls in the lobby wasn't the loser? In his opinion at any rate... Glad we've cleared that up!
I'll bet a pound to a pinch of shit the Cambodians are on a par with the Thais when it comes to making/saving 5b out of sweet FA. Talking out of his arse, best bit, you listened! Must have been real bored that day I bet...
So tell me how much should you pay A good paint crew A day to do A professional on your house?interior and exterior.
Another vote for DIY here, maybe hire 1 (ONE) guy as a helper and watch him like a baby. Show him what needs to be done, and the proper way to do it (meaning YOUR way). Eg, laying out the drop cloths to properly protect the floor. You do the roller work and he does the cutting, and inspect everything he does on the spot, don't hold back when he needs to be told to do something again. Be firm, but avoid insults. If he doesn't like it get another guy.
Best advice I have seen so far and exactly how I plan to do it. The only change is to hire 2-3 helpers and treat them all the same under a watchful eye. With our superior expertise and being know-it-alls from another country, the job will be done close to anyones standards. But then what would we have to talk about on these forums? Much easier to criticize than be proactive and teach, I guess.
strange question; how many people on a crew? 1 or 2 or 4 stories?
just get a price for the job, not a day rate, otherwise you will be grinding your teeth watching them not work
the normal way to proceed in this and any other country is get estimates from 3 painters and try to get some recommended people
So you're saying that expats want cheap, uneducated doctors?Quote:
