when you look at the listing for the construction forum, it does list how many people have been reading each thread
Hi DrAndy, Thanks for dropping a line, I was quite surprised when I saw so many comments this morning. Yes, I found the numbers relating to how many people have been reading each thread last night just before I logged off.
Have a great day and thanks again ...

And then not all replies are positive.
For me I reckon you have done a great job as the addition looks like it was part of the original building. I hadn't previously seen the pile driving technique they used, although on our place they did use a similiar arrangement for compacting before laying concrete. I also couldn't work out why they needed such large columns until I realised that to match the old front columns the new ones needed to be the same size so the size of the footings are related to the size of the column above not determined by the load they carry. Whenever I add something I always try and make it so that it could be free standing, your house could disappear and the addition still stand up, I like it.
I see you must have finally worked out how to post a large size picture, well done. It takes a bit to work out how to do it but then its easy.
Finally, since this was built some time ago have you been back and enjoyed the use of the new space/s?
Good morning (it's morning here!) ha ha! ... Thanks for your message, what a surprise for us with all the reactions to our postings when we logged in this morning. It really is what you said about your own posting about your wife's build and that you thought "nobody was out there". I also want to take a look at your posting when I have replied to you.
As for "the pile driving technique they used", I had also not seen this before but it seems to be a very effective (and possibly far less intrusive!) way of doing it.
Yes, we have been back many times since, at the moment twice a year (once for a month and then again for 3 weeks) so we have been enjoying it very much.
Thanks again for saying hello and have a great day ....
The cost of the extension ...

What size is yours and can you remember the final bill ?
Hi Thetyim ... Nice to hear from you. You mention 5.00m x 5.00m and ours was originally
3.25m x 1.30m (upstairs and downstairs) to which we have added an extra 4.75m length to both floors (Total = 6.05m x 3.25m).
Our total cost was about THB:235,000 (at the time about €5.600). but this was inclusive far more than just the build. Included were 6x recessed spot lights on 3 dimmers, 1 ceiling fan with control, 2 double waterproof sockets, tilling, painting and extra drainage run-off from the upstairs area.
I look forward to hearing from you (possibly in this forum?) when you start building ... Success and thanks again ...

Thanks for the compliments, we were also very pleased with the finish and the quality of work, and quality is the best visiting card that you can have as he has now lots more work in the same village.
Mmmm! What is a "Green" ?

You were not the first person to say "At first I thought it would be about a rustic house in a little village out in the scrub somewhere". During the first couple of posts I tried to explain were the house was located " in a beautiful walled village just outside Meechai's home town of Chonburi where his family still live and work. Access to the village can only be achieved with special access passes and with it's 24 hour Guard patrols and CCTV surveillance it feels very secure" ......
The reason I wrote this was more to explain that we were (unlike the majourity of the posts!) in a new purpose built village on the outskirts of a city rather than a beautifuly quiet northern mountain rural setting .....
As for "last house in the village" .... That was more to explain that we were the last house on the road, with no building or neighbours opposite and because the access road goes no further than our house, no traffic! ... Ohh, it is so peaceful! ...
I have always been very pleased with their work.

Hi attaboy, Thanks so much for your nice comments ...
"The new addition blends in very nicely with the rest of your home. It doesn't look chintzy at all. I can't imagine your neighbors having a problem with it. Well done".
I think it is also a compliment to Thai craftmanship as the finished product is really very good. I hear too many very negative comments about Thai workmanship yet I have always been very pleased with their work.
Thanks again ....
We were also very pleased with the result ...
