    Yet another water pump thread

I have just noticed my water pump has developed a hammer when it stops. Ie. hydraulic shock.

I there usually an integral check valve? The pump is under the stairs in a dark area so not easy to see. If there is one it could be sticking and I'll have to take it out and clean it. I can't see one in the inlet or outlet blue piping.

    Subsequent edit.

Ok found this from another thread

If so the check valve in the water pump may not be working properly, allowing water to run back into the tank leaving air in the impeller. Remove the plastic cap your fat finger is pointing at. You will see a plunger like plastic valve with a spring. Pull it out and check to see if the rubber gasket and where it seats is clean. Also, make sure the spring is functioning.
Grovelled under there and found a piece of gravel in the check valve. Now the question is should there be a spring? because mine doesn't have one.

Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Sorry for the frivolous thread but since Benbaa got me into water pumps i noticed mine was noisy.
I did in fact have no spring in the check valve a 25 baht Mitsubishi part, plus breakfast at McDonald's and a taxi home.
The wife said it has been like that since we moved in I never noticed until Benbaa got me going.

    It is whisper quiet now.

Yes, as you have found out.

I will admit to knee jerk posting but had I not got fired up and posted I probably would never have been moved to fix it. Also add to that I went to Klon Toey where I have seen water pumps outside the shops. It was too easy

I walked into the first shop, when the lady asked me what I wanted? I took the top off a pump pointed at the black plastic cap and made a movement with my thumb and index figure indicating a spring and she asked me in broken English if I wanted the check valve or the spring.

    Thetyim,

    Anything above to work with?

I am sadly disappointed with this thread.
I was expecting it to be "pumping"
