    Swamp Cooler

Anybody using a swamp cooler? Have any pictures of how you've incorporated one into a wall?

Used to be pretty common in the American Southwest, before everyone went to air conditioners. Basically a radiator, water pump and fan to blow across the coils for cool and humidified air into a room.

They don't work very well in Thailand because the humidity is so high

    What he said.

Won't work well at all. They humidify dry air.

Thanks, Guys... was looking for ways to cut-down on the anticipated aircon costs.

Design the house with plenty of ventilation and insulate rooms you want to use air con.

Used to see a lot of them in places like Palm Springs, CA where the desert air is dry. But now with all the golf courses there, the humidity is like Thailand and it's all A/C these days.

This makes sense. So much for my retro ideas. This is pragmatic. Thanks.

pm if you'd like the 17 features used in 3rd house I designed and first built here
    It ain't pretty nor finished
eg concrete Slab aligned 5 degree w of South no windows on Southern elevation. As we are near the tropic a few shaded windows to N where sun is for a couple of weeks a year.
Hebel 20cm thick Superblock 5.76m high rooms with aligned screened windows to catch breeze
Double screened and foiled roof with 2 m overhang at 27 degree .
    Use of local shade planting
I will be raising ha has to creat e even more updraft
Loft opening into double pyramid roof
Rarely use the fans and one air con guest room used about 24 hrs a year.
In addition to built envronment need to look at micro climate shade and usage.
I built a cloister all round and will have trellis pergola type slatting soon.
Not a unique solution Wood house with many openings and vents lightboxes on stilts or columns trad farms or many schools.
Thick walls blinds and shutters coupled to upper opening for draft is why the Wat is cool even on sticky days
    Good luck
