The wife now thinks this idea might be good. Will have to take a second look.

Not too cheap though if you have a lot of windows to do. The stuff that blocks out the heat can be around 300 baht a metre ( depending on pattern ) and is only about 50 cm wide although other widths are available. Looks like fake stained glass. I find just drawing the curtains helps a bit.
Do they do clear stuff with no crappy patterns on it?

Yes the stuff I'm on about is clear and is about 0.4-0.5mm thick. Its on a roll about 5ft width IIRC. Not expensive and if it was nicely gaffer taped to the outer aluminium window frame on the inside of the room it would create a nice seal and keep that air con air inside.

That's the stuff. You might need spacers if it gets windy, but it does make a difference.

Yes, and a bit cheaper. They are pushing the stuff hard at Home Pro. Not seen the stuff Spin is talking about on a 5 ft roll though. The thing they push in the sales blurb is that it protects against U.V. and heat. Some of the cheaper clear stuff doesn't so best to check. I ended up getting some cheap stuff 50cm wide on a long roll enough for 1 double window. About 180 baht. This stuff was not U.V. rated but was frosted to stop nosey neighbours seeing me in the buff so I wasn't expecting much. Nonetheless, it did help a bit.

38 degrees in the shade in Bangyai so I've given up and retired to the air conned bedroom the last couple of days. Clothes ....... who needs 'em ?

Just a thought. One thing that seems to help more than anything is keeping all the doors and windows closed and the curtains drawn. As soon as I open a window for ' ventilation ' hot air blows in from outside through the flyscreen like a hair dryer in the face. Room temp rises by about 2-3 degrees very quickly.
