not really got anything to do with construction let alone Thailand, but it cracked me up none the less. Taken in Stung Treng, Cambodia
I don't have a picture but a few years back I was going to lunch from the office near Sriracha and there was one of those big high sided trucks full of rocks lying on it's side in the central storm drain ditch.
When I came back they were offloading a crawler mounted backhoe presumable to get the rocks out so they could recover the truck. So far so good.
Came to go home and the crawler mounted backhoe was lying on it's side in the bottom of the storm ditch.
Silly buggers had tried to drive it down the sloping side of the ditch at an angle instead of strainght down and turn 90 degrees at the bottom.
Iy was Friday and I wasn't working the weekend so I don't know how they got both vehicles out but they were gone Monday morning.
Thai construction site cock ups happen daily, you only hear about the bad ones especially if someone dies.
Nice photo I bet that pick up was welded and is back on the road now!Originally Posted by WujouMao
I don't think the first pics of the Earth Mover are of an accident .. they're just parking the thing!
^ they just cant even drive straight...
Anyone remember that piling machine that fell across Soi 6/1 from the site over the fence a few years back?
I was errr.... helping fix some aircon unit in one of the upstairs rooms at the time and heard a crash!
It injured one of the food stall owners I believe.
Many years ago I was sitting in a restaurant on Lamai Beach on Koh Samui when a high-sided truck drove onto the beach. A bunch of labourers jumped out of the back and started shovelling sand into the back. They filled it up and then tried to drive off the beach. Zzzzt....straight down to the axles. They tried towing it off. No go, too heavy. They ended up having to shovel most of the sand back out before they could tow the truck off the beach. Then they did a bucket brigade to fill it up again. It was an entertaining couple of hours !!
It must be 12 years ago and it happened right next to our factory in Soi Onnut.
The "leaning tower of Onnut" I remember the Bangkok Post called it and it was quite frightening and something I thought I would never see.
A construction company was building 2 identical medium rise apartment blocks on the land next to our factory, one was already built to the full finished 12 storey height and the adjacent one was up to 8 stories at the time.
I was in the offices when I felt the ground shake and heard a dull rumbling sound. We all ran out of the office building and into the car park (fearing it was an earthquake) and you could not see 2 metres in front of you because of all the dust in the air.
I ran to the front gate and asked the guard what had happened and he said one of the buildings next door was sleeping on the other one.
Well after about 5 minutes the dust had cleared and sure enough the 8 storey building had toppled over coming to rest on the adjacent building and sitting at 20 degrees to it's horizontal base.
All of a sudden the police and rescue teams were there and we had to move all our cars because if the building continued to move it would land directly into our carpark.
I have some pictures somewhere and will attempt to find them but this event was truly remarkable as not one person lost their life and the owner/ builder done a runner.

I was hoping this would turn into an accident, driving down the wrong side of the road when it was busy, sadly it didn't.
^ I can imagine the faces of traffic cops in the west upon seeing something like that
Here's some old photos that are also on an old thread. Worth airing again though, as a reminder to those who forget concrete trucks obey the laws of gravity during the rainy season
Here's a few more from today. Whoops...
Is that copper in the middle of the road just about to blow his whistle at the crane? That'll stop it for sure.
Get that fat bastard to climb up....that should tilt it back the right way.....one bolt in and bobs ya uncle
