Fair enough, but it can be a long hard job. All that rubbing.
yes, but at the end of the job you have a very satisfiying look.
I suppose so. At your age though, I'm surprised you don't get some help for the heavier work.
Thinking to get someone in....missus suggested this also.
Have had help in the past.....the females are the best at the slow repetitive stuff.
Cheaper too.Originally Posted by Nawty
They tend to get the Tung into the cracks better than the guys.....most of the guys just left drops on the floor and left before it was finished properly.
Shoddy.Originally Posted by Nawty
Women tend to lap it up, I agree.

How to avoid foundation and joining issues.
I want to extend out, having removed the concrete on the left hand side and removing the wooden kitchen on the right. Using the timber to blend in the concrete extension with kitchen, dining area opening out onto the garden. On top of this we'd put a new bathroom and have large deck.
The little balcony above the concrete leads into the main bedroom. The left hand side of the balcony is a very small squat bog.
Al suggestions, ideas and opinions appreciated.
Don't worry about joining, the foundations are the main thing...if you were to come out 3 metres (no more though) dig a good deep hole about 1.8 - 2 m , deep, and the same dimensions wide (you could put the world trade centre on this. fill the first 30cm or so with granite rocks, (If you can dig down to sand all the better) then add a few centimetres, maybe another 30-40 of smaller pebbles, the same size that you used to throw at the police, then layer it over with sand just to cover everything a centimetre or so, then fill the whole lot with concrete.
nothing will move, but don't go out more than a 3 metre span from where you want to join up..
If you get the concrete base strong enough, you are probably onll joining wood to wood, so your foundations are already way strong enough.
Make sure you use PORTLAND cement for the concrete and not that Poon Suer!
I have some original plans four re bar and foundations that were passed by the Chiang Mai municipality corrupt bastards, that will give you an idea of what you need to set your foundations, it details the rebar, sizes of steel, tying, the concrete etc...drop me a line and I will dig them out. These have all been passed by their "Planning" (Ha HA ) committee!
Seriously, they aren't bad, especially if you only want to extend.
That's great thanks Missi.
What's the going rate for a 5m truck of premix in your area ?
It was...and I say was.. about 5K Baht...that is going back about 3 years, but I think we paid 15K for 3 of those big cement mixers..yes, 14.5-15K, but it wasn't enough and they wanted the same for a small truck as a BIG ONE, JUST TO COME OUT.
iF YOU NEED MORE THAN ONE TRUCK.... Do not listen to the Thais!
You need to specify A TIME!!!! for them to arrive.
The arseholes that worked here told me "Ahh they will understand" Did they?... no way
Three fucking trucks pulled up within 20 minutes or so...we had to crack up the last portion that was laid as it was not even flat!
I have never seen Thais lose face or work harder to try to cover their fucking stupidity more than this.
I specifically asked the head guy, "WHAT TIME DO YOU WAnt the trucks?"....REPLY "NO PROBLEM...THEY WILL UNDERSTAND"....obviously as they were all Thais together and shared their one brain between the entire country..got to admire the sharing spirit though!

Germany = 5
I've seen 3 here in the sticks. I'll check on 5.
So, for those that are interested we've decided NOT to lift the whole thing up and build underneath.
We'll extend out the back.
More to follow as plans get drawn up.
