Greetings again all,
I posted last night on a couple of threads but here on this one about the plumbing problem.
I noticed several comments about sources for certain products like stainless screws and such especially to US standards.

I wanted to mention that amazingly enough I discovered that within the last few years True Value has opened a very large store in downtown Bangkok and a couple of other locations.

We are fortunate enough to have had a small one open up down here in Phuket and I nearly lost it with excitement like a little boy in a toy store, my wife thought I had finally gone over the edge for good, she's Chinese and doesnt completely relate to my frustration all the time not realizing how much of these products and their quality I had taken for granted before.

A real shovel for example! and real brooms! I bought a great push broom which was virtually impossible for me to find here previously. It is a bit more expensive than back home of course, but when you factor in the quality and convenience it is worth it big time.. Tools, housewares, brass picture hangers, you know what I mean, all of those things you are all pining for so check them out.

Well.... I had intended to post some helpful web links to those sites but there is some strange point system on this site that prevents that from happening so you'll just have to search them on your own, sorry.. I hope that this information does as much for lowering your blood pressure as it did for mine..

I picked one up at Global House here in Roiet. Think they have store in Udon but not sure. They have push brooms also.

Glad I could contribute, and thanks for the site link postings. As I recall I did see a real honest to goodness rake. But the store here in Phuket is a small one at the moment, they are getting more products every day but they clearly have limitations due to size.

If you are anywhere near the Bangkok store, though I haven't been there myself yet, it clearly has a much larger inventory, it is also the home office..

Yes there is a Global House in Udon Thani on the Northeast section of the ring road next door to Bo-Bay, a huge clothes market like Pratunam in Bangkok.

Hope they open one in Chiang Mai soon, have only had bad uncaring service from Home Pro. bought Air con with free Duvet, free gift was similar to getting gold out of Fort Knox, got it a year later after much hassle. electric shower, bits missing. whats the secret of how to get service without losing your rag?

I know!! Isn't that crazy?? amazing what you end up taking for granted. Every kind of Simple Green cleaner you can fathom and that stuff is the best, I've been using it ever since it first came out... Real plastic products from Rubber maid!! Not like the crap I usually get that breaks down way before it should like my garbage can. A little pricey but you'd replace it 3 or 4 times over with the local junk so in the end there really is no savings.

Items like that should have a much longer life expectancy before biodegrading. Then you just end up throwing away tons of garbage cans that could still be used for garbage but instead they are filling up land fills!!

Home Pro has its use. I buy some things there.

True Value just has strudy, long lasting household and garden products.

For instance, if you go to Home Pro you can buy a flimsy charcoal grill with no lid, no air vents for 3000 baht and it will last 6 months. It is not a proper grill.

On the other hand, you can go to True Value and buy a Weber charcoal for 4000 baht that is well built and will last years and years. It will have a lid, air vents and want fall over if the wind blows.

If you ever notice the screws in Thailand. Like the ones used to secure the butt sprayer in the WC....always rusty and will eventaully fail.
True Value will have sell you stainless screws that will NEVER rust.

Finally a push broom in Thailand, instead of the "cave man era" brooms they have here that are made with twigs and dried reeds!!!

There are a couple of stores around that you can get some passable stainless screws for such things as the bum gun holder the screws that come in the pack are not stainless they are just nickle plated hence the rust. So you should always buy some screws or have some on hand when you buy such items.

The biggest problem I found with the stainless screws here is they are very soft and either break if your not careful or they ream out and strip very easy. Many are also not stamped out properly so there is shards in the slots so you can't even get a screw driver into them..

For those of you in Bangkok, I think there is a store that is also located there. I say " I think" and "also" because I am making this assumption due to the name and the amount of inventory they carry (not your average Mom & Pop), there is an address listed on the net. But there is one down here in Phuket and it is about the most comprehensive store I have found in Thailand so far, especially for it's size. I feel quite certain they don't have a clue what is actually in their inventory. At this store you must be slim and agile to walk the aisles without being claustrophobic..
