Got a new toy to play in the dirt with
2008 Suzuki Carry from an acquaintance (one owner) It has 180 km on the clock but runs like o top. I only paid 80,000 baht for it so even If I need to do anything to it, I will still be ahear,
I changed the timing belt, oil, drained the water tank and filled it with antifreeze , also gave it a tuneup .
Now I am ready to load up my Hoe, and go to work.
    Got the land, now what?-carry-jpg

That soil looks good. Twice I tried to get good topsoil and twice I got rocky crap. It remains the one source of disgruntlement I have with the gf. Everything else is fine but when I walk over the garden I get grumpy about it. I just can't bring myself to give it a third try.

The back half rai or so is still virgin land and good soil. I had the tractor come in and plough it and level it and it looked really good. Then I had no idea what to do with it and now it is grass and weeds about 2 metres high. I like to think of it as a wildlife garden.

I was lucky with the dirt, as It was delivered to me by a neighbor that I see all the time and he would not want to screw me and lose face in the neighborhood. The whole thing, 30 trucks of dirt , abd tractor work cost me 17,000 bht. I don't know much about the "good dirt" market but I was expecting to pay a lot more than that.

As to what to do with it? The title of this thread just about describes it, and I find myself in the same boat as you. I will try to grow some vegetables . and by grow I mean kill. LOL and I am pretty sure it will end up being a "Wildlife garden"
Though my weed might be a bit more timed, as I brought with me from the US a self propelled lawn mower.
I might try to use the technique prescribed in the video below
-----PS. The garden festival is on in Khon Kaen right now , and it's huge . So big that when we went there the other day we did not get to walk it all. They had everything there. Only about 1/4th was garden stuff, so if you feel adventurous and want to take a ride over, I am sure both you and your lovely wife would enjoy it.

I get a couple of truckloads of soil a year to replace what the rains wash away and to revamp the chicken run. I usually end up paying around 800 Baht a load, so your deal sounds good.

The best soil is the black soil they dig out of the rice paddies though you have to time it right and it's not easy to get.

I've found the quality of soil I receive a lottery... sometimes ok, more often mainly clay and rocks. One load we had delivered contained a dead cat and a dog's front leg.

    I resemble that accusation
I am not lazy ,I training for an upcoming Netflix marathon. And if I have to give up a bit of beer enjoyment for the good of the sport, so be it. No one can say that I should not be committed

You don't have time or energy enough to maintain the garden as it is. How can you do more?
You know nothing about vegetables in Thailand and your potatoes and lettuces were wipe-outs. What next?
Even if you plant a row of vegetables you aren't going to eat 100 lettuces in one week, what are you going to do with them, rent a space in the market?

She gave me pause for thought and I am still thinking.

BTW, I was successful with my chillies. In case you thought I was totally useless. We also have enough kraphrow for our own needs.

It’s fun to have a plot of land to kick around and yours looks nice. My wife and I bought a piece not far from our house in Bantak I had big ideas of growing loads of stuff. Cleared it all and but up a fence and gate but not much seems to keep out the local scavengers. Our farm was a real mushroom hotspot but the locals just come in at night and take everything.

So I’ve just planted a load of trees for now. My brother in law did some corn but that went missing as well
I hope you have better luck with poachers.

This is a common sight as I walk the farm. I still really enjoy it though and don’t get the upset. I just burn it up with my dirt bike now. They probably think I’m crazy.

    Interesting video.
I wonder, where do I get that white plastic to cover the mounts, forrows . or should I get some white plastic , cut it in lengths, and cut planting holes every 12 inch or so?

    Corn sounds interesting and easy.

I have the same type of post and barbed wire fence that would stop nothing other than a buffalo for wondering in. I plan to hung chainlink , or that rabbit wire fencing material with the square grid design, Whichever is less expensive. I know that they can easily jump the fence, and would keep anyone out if they wanted to come in, but it will keep the dogs in (I plan to heep a few dogs there) and hopefully they will keep the poachers out.

I love that big three in the middle of your property. I wish I had a tree like that. I see some places on the road that sell them, we were thinking of buying one. But I want to settle with, what we are going to do, and if we are going to build a small frm house there, so I know where the best place to plant the tree would be.

TBH, it isn't just the sowing and growing part that challenges, there is also the picking to be done. The melons in Norton's vid look great, they don't pick and transport themselves though.

I have just planted some more chillies. Risk taker that I am I chose a different type of seed this time.

Just a poor attempt at humor on my part.
You of course is absolutely right , what to do with all the things I grow , assuming that I will grow anything LOL
...My wife's sister runs a village convenience store. So whatever she wants to take and sell she is welcome.otherwise my plan is to give away most of what I grow.
just trying to keep busy, perhaps after awhile I will lose interest and look for something else to do.
..Just came back from there . I planted a couple of pepper bushes. two grape vine plants at by the fence, the plan is that will grow on the fence, I think I will plan a couple of watermelon vines, maybe a couple of pumpkins.
Oh , and had a fight with the wife LOL.
...I did not have my phone with me , so no pictures. but I will take some when I go back later today, and perhaps I can get the wife to reenact the fight. LOL

PS: just in case you are wondering about the three periods in front of my condenses , I cant get TD to indent , so I thought a couple of periods will make it look like an indent and make it easier to read. What you think?
