    1 week later

Well like any pond or aquarium there is a stabilization period. The first 2 or 3 days I couldn't get the pH under control. It was top of the scale caustic due to pH right around 10 to 10.2. This was due to the lime leaching out of the cement. I drained and re filled the pond and ran the pumps and fountains then drained and re filled again. The 2nd refill I used sample water from the various lotus pots we have around the property. I checked each of the pH in them and they ranged from 7.9 to 8.5. City water was right at 8. I do not want an algae pond but all ponds are an Eco system so it all about establishing a suitable living environment.

As of today the pH is 8.2. Fish and Crayfish seem to be happy. I lost about 8 crayfish stabilizing the pond, mostly little ones but did lose a big male which was a bit sad.

Rock accents, plants and the fish are doing well. In fact this morning I found a frog swimming along and it seems to have taken up a place in the rocks.

Excellent, if the frog likes it then it must be under control now.

That was my thinking as well DW. If it went in it by itself, it must be ok or close.

I am checking pH every morning and it's stable at 8.4. Based on some of my research that's OK. Suitable range is 6 to 9.

The mini "Lampang Pond" has stabilized at pH around 8. Little guppy fish doing well and the crayfish are starting to adapt to their new living arrangements and have set up their territories and now move around the pond pretty openly.

Its was an effective eco system before as the crayfish love to eat algae and bottom debris and the fish eat the roots and any mosquito or bugs that land in it. The Frog that found its way in to the pond on its own is a tourist. He appears to leave and come back.

Heading to a pet store in a day or so to find a few other fish and that will be about it.

They would. I am slowly becoming a "Prepper". I can almost live off the land. BUT.... what's the point? Who wants to survive a holocaust and not have any Beer, Bourbon or chips and of course sports. Never really understood that thought process. If I hear an air raid, I am firing up the Q and the Crayfish or going on it straight away.

Today I received my colorful pond guppies from a place in BKK. Amazingly all survived the trek. ~ 200 for 100 bht delivered.

After a 45 minute acclimation time in the bag, off they go

Dropped in some food and they took right to it and spread out with the other fish.

Project complete for now and I enjoy walking by it and hearing the fountain running.
